Brentford vs Liverpool: The key weakness that could cost Liverpool against the Bees

Brentford vs Liverpool: The key weakness that could cost Liverpool against the Bees Liverpool will be aiming to return to winning ways in the Premier League when they face Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Liverpool suffered a 3-0 home defeat to Manchester City last time out, ending their unbeaten start to the season. They bounced back with a 6-3 victory over Austrian side LASK in the UEFA Champions League , but Brentford are expected to pose a sterner test. The Bees remain unbeaten in the competition, although they have won just two league games and are one point clear of Liverpool. Despite the heavy defeat to City, Liverpool have been largely solid this season, but have been underwhelming offensively, and that could prove costly against Brentford. The Reds have scored just seven league goals. They rank ninth for expected goals (xG) and have created just nine big chances—the joint-fewest in the division—highlighting their struggles in the final third. Liverpool need a massive improvement in the final third to boost their chances of beating Brentford, who are one of the most organised sides in the Premier League. Following their impressive performances against LASK , Bradley Barcola and Florian Wirtz may need to be at their brilliant best to break down the hosts. Barcola’s ability to beat his man one-on-one, stretch defences and pick out a team-mate in dangerous positions could prove crucial. Wirtz, meanwhile, can disrupt Brentford’s defensive shape with his quick feet in tight spaces, intelligent runs and incisive passing, making him another key player for Liverpool. Andoni Iraola’s side must also be wary of Brentford’s threat from set-pieces and transitions. Wednesday’s victory at LASK was laudable, but Liverpool will be judged with their performances against strong oppositions such as Brentford. The Reds will need to show greater attacking efficiency if they are to return to winning ways.
