Erling Haaland ‘needs some rest’ as Enzo Maresca considers Man City rotation

Enzo Maresca will consider resting Erling Haaland over the coming weeks as Manchester City balance a busy schedule. Haaland has already racked up 13 starts for club and country this season after playing four times for Norway in the international break. Premier League leaders City host Ipswich on Saturday after Haaland scored twice in the 4-2 home defeat to Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday. City will then return to Champions League action against AEK Athens on Tuesday and Maresca said he will need to rotate his squad at some stage. “At some point we probably need to give him rest, some days off,” Maresca said in his pre-match press conference before facing Ipswich. “We are thinking about this not just with Erling because we have players, unfortunately or fortunately, they are playing all the games with us and all the games with the international teams. “Elliot [Anderson], Enzo [Fernandez], Marc [Guehi], Erling, Ruben [Dias]. So at some point we probably need to give them some rest.” Haaland took his scoring tally for the season to 10 with his brace against PSG, which made him City’s record Champions League goalscorer. City have won all six of their Premier League games this season can continue their winning start against newly promoted Ipswich. It will be the club’s first home game in the Premier League since they were found guilty of almost all of the Premier League charges. City have maintained their innocence and are appealing the verdict.
