Liverpool interest in 'gem' confirmed by agent
Liverpool interest in 'gem' confirmed by agent Liverpool have been linked with a lot of players over the last few years. From the last two seasons combined, the club have spent over £600 million on new talent and, it's still unclear whether they're any better off from it or not. Some deals such as Hugo Ekitike's and Ronald Araujo's have already paid off but, for some, it's still unclear to fans whether those deals were worth agreeing or not. Florian Wirtz is the best example of this because, when he was first signed, he was Liverpool's club-record deal but, just a month or so after, Alexander Isak took that record. This made fans think that their attack was sorted for the next few years but then, this summer, £123 million was spent on Bradley Barcola who's only just finding his feet. Many other links with many other players have emerged over the last few years and now, Liverpool's interest in one player has been confirmed. Nico Williams was on Liverpool's shortlist in 2024 For the last few years, Liverpool moving on from the Mohamed Salah , Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino era has been one of their main priorities. That trio carried the Reds through some of their best moments of the last 10 or so years but now, they need to move on. They've tried to do this by signing some of the world's best players and, while some deals have worked out, there are some that Liverpool seem to have missed out on that could come back to bite them. At the moment, it's unclear if any deals will or not but, after what the agent of Nico Williams said to Marca about Liverpool's previous interest in him, the Reds may end up regretting not following through. "We all know about Barça's interest in the summer of '24, after the European Championship," he said in quotes relayed by Marca. "Barça, Arsenal, Bayern, Liverpool, PSG... I could name them all. Everyone wanted Nico, and having a player say no to all these clubs isn't easy. "From there, we talked to Barça. Athletic knew because I kept them informed about the situation at all times, even though Athletic and Barça, Athletic was angry with Barça for their methods. "From then on, I initiated conversations, and there came a point in the negotiations, in the situation, where Nico couldn't be without playing time. Nico is a Formula 1 car, and if I go to your house, I can't take on your problem, and I made that clear to Barça. "From then on, we decided that if there weren't certain guarantees, we couldn't risk Nico not going there to play, with a World Cup coming up, and not just with a World Cup, it's... A professional has to practice their profession. "I go to your house to practice my profession; I have to continue doing my profession, and if you have a problem, that shouldn't affect me. And if you can't assure me that it won't affect me, then I might have to change my mind." Nico Williams would have been a perfect addition for Liverpool Since Liverpool never managed to get a deal over the line for Williams, who has been described as a " gem ", they had to turn their attention elsewhere. Indeed, many other players were signed in his place but, a natural right-winger is the main thing that they needed. Of course, Williams had been moved to the left by Athletic Club but, thanks to his experience on both wings, he could play on either side just as well as the other. The Spaniard didn't have the best campaign last season but, he still contributed to 13 goals across all competitions. This term, he's had another slow start but, since he's only 24 years old, there's plenty of time for him to grow into an even better player than he already is. Indeed, Barcola and Victor Munoz were the two wingers that Liverpool chose to bring in this summer but, with all the changes that keep occurring, it wouldn't be a surprise to see Williams links with an Anfield switch in the near future. Or, with a move to any other European powerhouse, for that matter.
