Here's here, new-right back coming to Andoni Iraola's Liverpool
Here's here, new-right back coming to Andoni Iraola's Liverpool An exciting new right-back is coming to Andoni Iraola's Liverpool first-team. The right side of defence has been a problem ever since Trent Alexander-Arnold left the club. Liverpool have tried to replace him for over a year now to no avail. Richard Hughes' decision to sign Jeremie Frimpong as a replacement was firmly rejected by Arne Slot last year. He opted to play the likes of Dominik Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones in the role over Frimpong. Meanwhile, Iraola, while being a little bit more open to the idea of Frimpong being a right-back has now gone with Ronald Araujo starting the vast majority of the Premier League games in that role over the Dutchman. It's a temporary solution still. Araujo is a centre-back and long-term Liverpool will need another right-back - no matter how well Conor Bradley recovers from his injury. Who could Liverpool's new right-back be? There are a number of players being monitored by the club. Among the players who is most liked is Daniel Banjaqui of Benfica. He caught the attention of the club's scouts at the U17 World Cup, where he helped Portugal to victory. Banjaqui has since become a first-team player at Benfica, and he has been impressive with some of his performances. Pedro Marques is believed to be a big fan alongside Julian Ward. Although Banjaqui is not the only option the club is looking at. Another solution could be Ismaelo Ganiou and the Reds are big admirers of Josh Acheampong as well. Sooner or later, Liverpool are expected to enter the market for a right-back. However, the club's solution could also come from within. Oliver O'Connor is heading to Liverpool's first-team soon The reality is that when the Reds last needed a right-back, Trent Alexander-Arnold stepped up from the academy. Since then, Liverpool have also developed Neco Williams and the aforementioned Bradley as well. The club seems to have a knack for bringing through exciting young full-backs and there's a new name to add to the list. Oliver O'Connor has been catching the eye at U21 and U19 level this season, he's been brilliant in the club's two EFL Trophy games and also had a very impressive performance in the UEFA Youth League. A very determined and hard-working player, O'Connor is bound to be coming to the first-team soon given the lack of depth at Iraola's disposal.
