Liverpool ready to cancel Lamine Camara move, would sign £80m star instead
Liverpool ready to cancel Lamine Camara move, would sign £80m star instead It appears Liverpool are ready to cancel any move for Lamine Camara. They're heading towards an £80m deal instead. Liverpool have been heavily linked with a move for Lamine Camara in 2027. The midfielder is expected to leave AS Monaco, having come incredibly close to doing so at the end of the summer transfer window. Monaco ended up not selling the player to Chelsea, principally because they felt a bigger deal could happen down the line. Journalist Ben Jacobs claims that was on the back of a call from Liverpool . The Reds suggested that they'd get involved for Camara next year and for something closer to the asking price than Chelsea were willing to pay. We considered that to be fantastic news as we're big fans of the player and performs very well in our Value Adder model . But that isn't to say that Liverpool are all-in on the player. In fact, it appears they might not be. Alex Scott vs Lamine Camara Camara is unquestionably of the same ilk as the rest of the elite-level midfielders in Europe right now. Or at least, the elite-level all-around midfielders. Our model profiles him as similar to Declan Rice in attack, Mamadou Sangare in defence and Elliot Anderson in possession. Three midfielders who were absolute standouts last season and two of them made big moves in the summer. Liverpool, though, may be more tempted by Alex Scott. Sky Sports report serious interest there and that Bournemouth are willing to sell at around £80m, even in January as he enters the final 18 months of his contract. It's an interesting one. Scott actually offered identical value as Camara in our model last season, although in 1000 more minutes. That can be seen as a bonus or a problem but at the end of the day, Scott played more and was available more. In the details, though, there's little doubt that Camara is the superior player. We have him as 90th percentile and above for Ligue 1 midfielders in key passes, big chances created, interceptions, crosses, weighted defensive actions and many more (all per 90 minutes). Scott differs. He's far more about on the ball - his 90th-percentile-and-above scores are in dribbles, winning free kicks, duels, shots. All of those are totals , though, with his numbers inflated because of his high minutes. However, again, that can be seen as a bonus. These aren't imaginary "what ifs". Scott did these things for Bournemouth, winning free kicks and successful dribbles across a season. And perhaps that's what Liverpool value. Scott is a homegrown player who has proven ability to deliver across an entire Premier League season. Camara, for contrast, has never reached 2300 minutes in a league campaign and that's over 500 fewer than Scott had last season. Ultimately, the ability to deliver across a season and not just 'per 90' could swing this £80m deal.
