Liverpool locked in talks, confident they'll agree massive deal

Liverpool locked in talks, confident they'll agree massive deal Liverpool are reportedly confident and calm when it comes to clinching a fantastic deal. They're currently locked in talks. Julian Ward has contract situations galore to deal with as Liverpool have left him with all sorts of work to get done. The biggest two are probably Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker - world-class players who are set to leave the club as things stand. Now, normally that would mean sorting the deals ASAP but both are now well into their 30s. Van Dijk, as good as he is, will turn 36 next summer and that leaves Liverpool hesitant to dish out a big-money deal. Despite him being the club's best centre-back, quite clearly. That's far from the only deal that needs sorting, though. At least on one of them the club feels confident. Liverpool calm about Rio Ngumoha deal Rio Ngumoha has a contract running for a little over 18 months now and Liverpool will be keen to lock down arguably their biggest young talent for the long-term. What they can't afford to do is let this one drag into next summer when they'll be under intense pressure to sell. And sell they'd have to. Ngumoha is still too young to justify keeping around for a season - you're not getting £40m of value out of him in a campaign but you would easily get that in a transfer fee. Thankfully, things sound positive. The Athletic reports that Liverpool are in talks with Ngumoha about a new contract and they're feeling calm about the situation. We'll take that as them feeling confident about something getting done - we're not sure they'd be any reason for calm otherwise. Ngumoha's contract promises to be one of the most important deals that Ward can get done. It's a massive one, really. Fail to lock Ngumoha down and it'll be a real black mark against the new sporting director and early into his second spell in charge. Get him signed, though, and the atmosphere will look very, very positive.
