Marc Cucurella identifies key to Real Madrid success after 4-1 Sevilla win: ‘This is the way forward’ Marc Cucurella has stressed the importance of Real Madrid maintaining their intensity after an exhausting run of fixtures, with the defender insisting that the team’s response to recent challenges has demonstrated the mentality required to compete for major honours. Speaking after Real Madrid’s 4-1 victory over Sevilla in La Liga, Cucurella praised the collective contribution of the squad, highlighted the importance of making the Santiago Bernabeu a fortress and welcomed Eder Militao’s return from injury .  His attention then turned to the Champions League meeting with RB Leipzig, where another victory would strengthen Madrid’s position in the competition. Cucurella demands consistency after demanding run Real Madrid’s recent schedule has tested the squad, particularly after the scare against AS Roma last week.  Cucurella acknowledged that winning makes the atmosphere considerably better but insisted that the team cannot afford to lose concentration, regardless of the opposition or circumstances. “When you win, everything’s better and easier. We had a bit of a scare on Wednesday in Rome, but we managed to turn it round in the end. “That’s taught us that we have to give 100% in every match and that we can’t let our guard down for a single minute. “I think we’ve shown that today. We’ve played a great match and everyone has done their bit. This is the way forward.” Cucurella explained the importance of Real Madrid’s win over Sevilla. It’s not easy for any visiting team to play here. It’s an imposing stadium, and the talent of the players we have also counts for a lot. “If we make our home ground a fortress and a very difficult place to play, I think that’s where we can achieve great things and make progress in everything we set out to do,” he noted. Militao return gives Real Madrid another boost Cucurella welcomed Militao’s comeback, praising both the Brazilian’s quality on the pitch and his personality within the dressing room.  With a lengthy campaign ahead, he also stressed the value of having more players available. “He’s a great player with a lot of character. He also brings a lot to the dressing room. He’s a very cheerful lad and I’m really happy to have him back. “We’ve only got a few injured players at the moment, but we’re getting there bit by bit. The important thing is that we’re all here. “It’s a very long season. There are lots of matches and the more players we have available, the better.” Cucurella’s focus now moves to the RB Leipzig game. Everyone, however many minutes they play, has to contribute, and the team comes first. “I think we’re proving that. Today, different players have scored and everyone is trying to make a contribution. This is the way forward.” Leipzig victory is Real Madrid’s next priority Jose Mourinho’s men now turn their attention to RB Leipzig, with Cucurella identifying three points as an important objective in the Champions League.  He believes the competition demands a particular level of focus and expressed the team’s determination to make progress. “Securing a win against Leipzig would be very important. We know the Champions League is a special competition. “We’re really keen to achieve something significant, and it’s important to pick up all three points at home and have three wins in the bag,” he concluded.
