England boss Wiegman signs new deal

England boss Wiegman signs new deal England head coach Sarina Wiegman has signed a contract extension with The Football Association until after UEFA Women’s EURO 2029. WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official media update from The Football Association this morning. Wiegman took up her role back in summer 2021. She has been hugely successful, leading England to two UEFA Women’s EURO titles, two Arnold Clark Cups and the Women’s Finalissima. The Lionesses were also FIFA Women’s World Cup finalists in 2023. The Dutchwoman was set to be out of contract next summer but she is now staying on for two more years. After signing her new deal, Wiegman said “I am so happy to be able to carry on with this squad and cannot think of a better job in football. Working for a world-class organisation like The FA, and alongside so many people dedicated to winning England teams and the growth of our game, excites me every day. “I am grateful to Mark Bullingham, Debbie Hewitt and the FA Board for the incredible way they have backed me, my coaches and support team and, of course, the players. “I am honoured by their trust, which I never take for granted and want to keep this great partnership going. I have such a strong desire to see what more we can achieve together with our amazing fans. “I also want to keep supporting the wonderful collaborative work being led by The FA across the women’s game, particularly in developing young players and coaches. “Of course, anyone who knows me will understand that my main concern right now is absolutely the World Cup, and helping this squad realise their potential in the years to come. We have an important job to do to confirm our place in Brazil, and hopefully we can do that and give the country another special summer to remember next year.” England end the calendar year with a two-legged FIFA Women’s World Cup Brazil 2027 qualification play-off against Ukraine.
