Antoine Semenyo, Erling Haaland, Matheus Nunes, Mateo Kovacic and Nico O’Reilly all picked up injuries at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday. Enzo Maresca has provided an update on Antoine Semenyo’s injury and the Ghana international is set for a prolonged spell on the sidelines. Losing Semenyo is a blow for Manchester City, but his injury does give an opportunity for others to impress. Antoine Semenyo is set for a prolonged period on the sidelines, but it seems like Manchester City dodged a bigger bullet. Enzo Maresca faced the media earlier today ahead of Manchester City’s UEFA Champions League league phase fixture against AEK Athens. City will face the Greek giants at the Etihad Stadium tomorrow night. Maresca provided an update on the injury Antoine Semenyo suffered against Ipswich Town. It has been revealed that Semenyo suffered a knee injury and is likely to be sidelined for eight week. However, Maresca added that Manchester City feared that Semenyo’s knee injury was a lot worse than it has turned out to be. He explained: “ The only one that will be out for probably eight weeks is Antoine. In the first moment we expected an even worse injury so we were more worried. ” “ After yesterday’s scan we feel much better because it’s not so big like we expected. “ “ It could be eight weeks. Now in this moment the most important thing for him is his recovery. When he is back around December it will be like a new player in terms of energy. “ Antoine Semenyo’s injury does offer opportunities for others to impress for the next eight weeks. Losing Antoine Semenyo is a big blow for Manchester City. The Ghana international has been ever present in Enzo Maresca’s starting lineup this season and his pace, power and finishing ability is a major attacking weapon for this City side. Unfortunately, Semenyo will now be sidelined for eight weeks, but his injury does give another player an opportunity to impress. With Jeremy Doku fit, Antoine Semenyo had become Manchester City’s first-choice right winger. With Semenyo now sidelined, it offers an opportunity for another player to stake their claim for the role. Iliman Ndiaye started on the right wing against Ipswich Town. The Senegalese international was dangerous throughout the game and can step into the void that Semenyo’s absence creates. Phil Foden or Rayan Cherki could also play on the right. This would allow Enzo Maresca to play the pair together, making Manchester City a dangerous side in the final third. Brazilian winger Allan is another player who may now be given an opportunity to make an impact. Allan hasn’t featured often as of yet but Semenyo’s injury may now give him an opportunity to play more often. Antoine Semenyo’s injury is a blow for Manchester City. However, the silver lining is that Enzo Maresca has a host of quality options to utilise which could provide City with a different threat up front.
