Madrid chase three from three against Leipzig without Asencio, Rodrygo and Mendy Real Madrid host RB Leipzig at the Bernabéu on Wednesday looking for a third straight Champions League win, with Raúl Asencio, Rodrygo and Ferland Mendy all ruled out. It is José Mourinho's last match before Sunday's Clásico at Camp Nou, where Madrid start six points behind leaders Barcelona. Real Madrid face RB Leipzig in Champions League Matchday 3 on Wednesday at 21:00 CEST at the Bernabéu. Madrid sit 8th in the league-phase table on six points, while Leipzig are 21st on three points after a 6-1 defeat at Bayern on Saturday. Rodrygo and Ferland Mendy are out alongside Raúl Asencio, who went under the knife on 1 October 2026 to repair a stress fracture of the right shin. Madrid travel to Spotify Camp Nou for the Clásico on Sunday 25 October at 21:00 CEST. Real Madrid go into Wednesday’s Champions League meeting with RB Leipzig at the Bernabéu with a perfect European record and a short squad. José Mourinho’s side have six points from wins over Inter and Roma, but Raúl Asencio, Rodrygo and Ferland Mendy will all miss the Matchday 3 tie, which kicks off at 21:00 CEST. Asencio misses out following an operation earlier this month. Dr Manuel Leyes operated on the defender’s right shin on 1 October 2026 to repair a stress fracture, a procedure the club described as successful and which Real Madrid’s medical services oversaw. Rodrygo has not yet completed a training session with the group, and Mendy is not on Madrid’s Champions League list, according to EFE. The French full-back is training with his teammates but has not been medically cleared as he recovers from a rectus femoris tendon injury, and he could return after the November international break, Sports Illustrated’s Spanish edition reported. Mourinho plays down title talk before the Clásico Madrid have won all three games since the international break, and the momentum is clear. In Rome they were 3-1 down in the 83rd minute before Espí, Endrick and Rüdiger scored in seven minutes for a 4-3 win, with Arda Güler setting up all three goals. Against Sevilla at the Bernabéu, Güler got on the scoresheet himself in a 4-1 win, with Mbappé scoring twice and Yan Diomande adding the fourth. Mourinho was in no mood to get carried away. At his pre-match press conference he said it was too early to talk about winning the Champions League and that the aim for now is to qualify, according to EFE. He also warned that three wins do not guarantee a fourth, stressing that Madrid still have to play the game and win it. The Portuguese welcomed the appointment of Romanian referee Kovács, praising his quality and personality and suggesting VAR may not need to play a big part. Timing shapes the night. This is Madrid’s last match before Barcelona, and after the Sevilla win they go into the Clásico six points behind the LaLiga leaders. Any rotation against Leipzig will be read as a pointer to Mourinho’s plans for Camp Nou. Leipzig arrive bruised, and Diomande faces his old club Leipzig come to Madrid on the back of a 6-1 defeat to Bayern at the Allianz Arena, where Luis Díaz scored a hat-trick and Andrija Maksimović got their goal in stoppage time, Goal reported. They sit 21st in the table, with Madrid 8th, and are without Marc Guiu and Assan Ouédraogo. The fixture has a personal edge for Diomande. Madrid announced a transfer agreement with Leipzig on 6 August 2026, with the forward signing for seven seasons, to 30 June 2033. Leipzig said he had joined them from CD Leganés in summer 2025 and scored 13 goals with ten assists in 36 competitive games for the German club. History favours the hosts. The clubs have met four times, with two Madrid wins, one draw and a single Leipzig victory, 3-2 at home in October 2022. Their last meeting was a 1-1 draw at the Bernabéu in March 2024, after Madrid had won 1-0 in Leipzig that February. Once Leipzig are dealt with, attention turns to Barcelona: LaLiga has scheduled the Matchday 10 Clásico for Sunday 25 October at 21:00 CEST at Spotify Camp Nou.
