Ninja A-League results: Central Coast Mariners take early lead with impressive win over Brisbane Roar The 2026/27 A-League Women season kicked off at the weekend. Canberra United will have to wait until next week to get their campaign underway, as they had the bye week. Here’s how the results from A-League match-week one shaped up across the league. Newcastle Jets 0-1 Perth Glory An early strike from Rola Badawiya gave Perth Glory the perfect start to the new season. The goal came from the spot when Josie Allan was penalised for handball. Badawiya made no mistake, sending Claire Henninger the wrong way with her strike. The Jets nearly equalised just before the half hour, but Libby Copus-Brown’s shot was blocked amid a melee in the Perth six-yard box. Tamar Levin’s late free-kick hit the bar as Newcastle battled in vain to find an equaliser in a game of few clear-cut chances. Western Sydney Wanderers 0-1 Melbourne Victory Embed from Getty Images Melbourne Victory claimed three points on the opening day thanks to Alana Jančevski’s first half strike. Victory had the better of the opening exchanges without being able to cause too many problems for Wanderers’ keeper Sarah Langman. They took the lead with 31 minutes played through a beautifully struck Jančevski free-kick. Anna Sutter nearly doubled the Victory lead early in the second half, but her shot was cleared off the line. A smart Courtney Newbon stop denied Allyssa Ng Saad following good work from Nikita Fazari on the right. Victory went close through a couple of corners late on, but ultimately had to settle for a 1-0 win ahead of a trip to Wellington next week. Brisbane Roar 2-4 Central Coast Mariners Central Coast Mariners recorded a hugely impressive win on opening night in Brisbane. Peta Trimis reacted quickest to a loose ball to hammer past Chloe Lincoln to open the scoring on seven minutes. Daisy Brown headed home from Murphy Agnew’s corner to level the game after twenty six minutes before Talia Kapetanelis restored the Mariners’ lead just before the break. She rifled home from a narrow angle, leaving Lincoln with no chance. Kapetanelis turned provider just before the hour. Her cross found Skye Halmarick in acres of space and she couldn’t miss from six yards out to notch a debut goal. Fifteen minutes later, it was Halmarick’s turn to assist. Her through ball was perfectly weighted for Morgan Witz, and the American made no mistake to fire in a fourth. Katrina Guillou reduced the areas with a stunning strike from the edge of the box, but it was just a consolation as the Mariners held on for the win. Wellington Phoenix 1-2 Melbourne City Embed from Getty Images A blockbuster of a free-kick from Momo Hayashi secured all three points for Melbourne City as they came from behind to beat Wellington Phoenix in a rematch of last season’s Grand Final. The Nix had the better of the chance in the first half as Malena Mieres saved well from Grace Jale and Makala Woods saw a great dipping effort smack the post. Woods gave the hosts the lead in the 51st minute as her drive from 12 yards crept in under the hand of Mieres. City found a way back into the contest when Taylor Ray was tripped in the box. Melina Ayres stepped up and converted to Victoria Esson’s right. The New Zealand international got a glove to it, but the pace and power was too much. The visitors completed the turnaround with five minutes left as Hayashi’s howitzer left Esson with no chance to ensure a winning start to City’s title defence. Sydney FC 2-2 Adelaide United Adelaide twice came from behind to take a point away from Sydney on Sunday. Asha Sutton raced clear of the Adelaide defence to open the scoring with a finish belying the fact the 17-year-old was making her debut. The Reds were on terms just two minutes later, however. Keira Meyers’ cross was turned past her own goalkeeper by Charlotte McClean. Adelaide were nearly gifted a second when Sydney keeper Tiahna Robertson was dispossessed, but Adriana Taranto’s lofted effort was cleared by McClean. Sydney retook the lead ten minutes into the second half as Riley Cohn picked Bella Yakel’s pocket on the edge of her own box. Cohn’s finish was unerring past Ilona Melegh. But the visitors snatched a point late on in sensational fashion as India Breier scored directly from a corner.
