Gazzetta claims Benfica do not have an option to re-sign Varela, who has signed a contract with Monza until 2030. This means the Lombardy-based club has total control over the striker, yet Benfica still have an option to match any future offer received by Monza for Varela as well as a 20% sell-on clause.
