Liverpool star proves his point, drops incredible statement

Liverpool star proves his point, drops incredible statement One Liverpool star dropped an incredible statement on Tuesday evening. He has more than proven his point. Liverpool beat Villarreal on Tuesday evening and it was an interesting game. The Reds fell behind 2-0 and were genuinely awful in the first-half, but somehow rallied to go into the break level. That was primarily because Andoni Iraola made some tactical tweaks to solidify the midfield. A midfield that looked unbearably porous across the first half. Liverpool got back into the game, though, and the second half allowed for one player to make an incredible statement. No one should be under any illusions as to how good he truly is. Florian Wirtz's statement The match was ultimately a perfect example of what Florian Wirtz brings to this Liverpool team. The German didn't play in the first half but came on at half-time - the stark difference in the Reds' performance was clear for all to see. Of course, Wirtz simply getting on the ball and then scoring a goal is a simple way to see how he made an impact. He finished in the top 10 for passes made in the match, a ridiculous figure given he only played half of it. But the real statement was less in Wirtz's direct impact and more what it meant for the team. In that first half, Liverpool had 55 per cent of the ball. That translated to eight shots on goal for a mere 0.19xG from open play and a paltry 14 touches in the opposition box. That latter figure was as many as Villarreal managed on the counter-attack with less possession. Then on came Wirtz. Liverpool's possession dropped in the second period to 51 per cent but they did far, far more with the ball. Their shot count jumped to 14 for 1.5xG from open play. Above all, they got the ball into better areas - 14 touches in the opposition box skyrocketed to 30. This all came from Wirtz nitting things together. His 56 touches in one half blew everyone else out of the water. Ryan Gravenberch, for comparison, had 57 across the full 90 minutes and he had played Wirtz's position in the first half . It was as display that showed why Wirtz is vital to Liverpool. Without him, very little happens and the Reds are dependent on set-pieces to find a path to goal. With him? They can actually break teams down and all get involved in attacks.
