To celebrate 70 years since the first presentation of the award every footballer dreams of winning, the official Ballon d'Or platform has also decided to introduce the " All-Time Ballon d'Or ", honoring not a player's career, but the greatest individual season ever. To be eligible, players must belong to the very select group who have won the Ballon d’Or at least twice in their careers (thus excluding legendary names such as Maradona and Pelé ). Unlike the Ballon d'Or, which is decided by a select panel of journalists, here the voting is open to the public . Anyone wishing to have their say is free to do so, at a cost of €1 per vote. And yes, you can vote multiple times, depending on how much you want to "invest" in helping your favorite win. 🤯 Votes pouring in for CR7! According to the current figures, the overwhelming favorite to win is Cristiano Ronaldo . The season in question is 2007/08 , when CR7 won the Premier League and Champions League with Manchester United , scoring in the final and finishing the season with 42 goals, which earned him the European Golden Shoe . The 41-year-old is comfortably ahead with 75% of the vote , followed by the 2012 version of Leo Messi, who scored 91 goals that year (9%). Rounding out the top three is another Cristiano Ronaldo season, 2017, with 6% of the vote. The other contenders are miles behind: Ronaldo Nazario, Van Basten, Platini, Cruyff, Keegan, Beckenbauer and Di Stefano have just 0.4% between them ! 🤑 More than half a million spent! As mentioned, voting is easy: just visit the Ballon d'Or website and pay €1 . According to reports, Cristiano Ronaldo's 2007/08 season has received more than 500,000 votes , meaning over half a million euros has been spent to help the Portuguese superstar triumph. On the same page, however, it is also stressed that the All-Time Ballon d'Or is " a public vote celebrating fans' passion, not an official trophy ". In short, winning it will not settle the eternal debate over who was better: Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo. This article was translated into English by Artificial Intelligence.
