Tebas hits back at CSD over complaint after controversial comments aimed at Real Madrid La Liga president Javier Tebas has criticised Spain’s Higher Sports Council (CSD) after the government body referred him to the Administrative Tribunal for Sport (TAD) over his comparison of Real Madrid TV’s methods with Nazi propaganda. Tebas accused the CSD of applying inconsistent standards, questioning why it had not publicly challenged Real Madrid’s repeated accusations against Spanish referees and the integrity of domestic competitions. In a statement published on his social media account, Tebas defended his original comments and suggested the latest referral was another attempt to pursue a potential suspension. He also challenged the CSD’s leadership over what he described as its silence when Real Madrid and the club’s television channel criticise LaLiga and the refereeing system. Tebas questions CSD’s response to Real Madrid’s refereeing claims Tebas began his statement by expressing frustration at the latest referral, arguing that the focus on his potential disqualification had become repetitive. “One more. Another request from the CSD to the TAD and, once again, headlines about my possible disqualification. The reasons change, but the persistence remains the same. We expected it: any excuse would have been enough,” he wrote. He then turned his criticism towards the government body, asking why its senior officials had not publicly rebuked Real Madrid over allegations of corruption, manipulated competitions and league titles being “stolen”. “There is a silence that particularly catches the eye,” Tebas said, adding that neither the Secretary of State for Sport nor senior CSD officials had offered a word of criticism in response to those accusations. The La Liga president also referenced comments made by Real Madrid president Florentino Perez in May, when he claimed that league titles had been taken away from the club. Tebas questioned whether such allegations could also undermine sporting dignity and decorum, arguing that they affect clubs, referees and millions of supporters. He suggested that the same principles should apply regardless of who makes the statements. That distinction was in the text from the outset. “The TAD will have to assess what I actually wrote, in its entirety and in context. And, if the situation reaches that stage, so will the courts,” Tebas said. He went on to reference the Dani Olmo registration controversy, recalling claims from people who had predicted that he would be politically or professionally finished. “The announcements have been coming for a long time. We are still here,” he added. Tebas concluded by defending his approach to the role of LaLiga president, arguing that protecting the competition sometimes requires responding to those who undermine its credibility. “Defending the competition also means responding to those who constantly discredit it. It is part of my responsibility, and I will continue to fulfil it,” he said. Concluding, the La Liga chief also took a final swipe at CSD president Jose Manuel Rodríguez Uribes, referring to scrutiny of the body’s management by Spain’s Court of Auditors. “And regarding the management of the CSD, we’ll talk about it later; well, the Court of Auditors has already started talking about it, hasn’t it, Mr. Uribes ?”
