Swansea winger Ronald faces up to two months out
Winger Ronald has made six appearances for Swansea this season, scoring twice [Huw Evans Picture Agency] Swansea City have suffered an injury blow after in-form winger Ronald was ruled out for six to eight weeks with a hamstring problem. Ronald picked up the injury during last weekend's defeat to West Ham United, when he played the full 90 minutes as an emergency right-back. The 25-year-old could now miss as many as 10 games in what is a setback for the Championship leaders given the impact he has made so far this season. Ronald came close to joining Millwall before last month's transfer deadline, but had forced his way back into Vitor Matos' plans after scoring twice in only six appearances in 2026-27. "It's not the most pleasant news, but we are here to use the squad and to help him as well to recover and get back stronger," Swansea head coach Matos said. "He has impacted the season in different ways from last season. I think he has come from the bench really well already, with two goals and always impacting the game, working hard. "I think he did a really consistent game [against West Ham], even creating the last chance in the game. Of course we will miss Ronnie." The timing of Ronald's injury is unfortunate given that he had just re-established himself following the collapse of his proposed move to The Den. Despite increased competition out wide, he has played a part in Swansea's bright start to the season and performed admirably when used out of position against the Hammers. Filip Lissah served a one-match ban last weekend after receiving a fifth yellow card of the season [Huw Evans Picture Agency] Having been suspended last weekend, Filip Lissah is set to return to the right-back spot when Swansea go to Queens Park Rangers on Saturday (15:00 BST), but Josh Key remains unavailable because of a hamstring issue. Matos acknowledged that Ronald's lay-off may open the door for on-loan Manchester City teenager Jeremy Monga to feature in a matchday squad for the first time since joining Swansea last month. "I think that's a natural question and a natural situation. When one winger is injured, that creates a gap, a space for another player to fill," Matos said. "Jeremy is one of our players. He's training well. I think he's getting step by step much more used to us and much more used to the environment, and that's good." Eagles boss Pierre Sage is under pressure after a difficult start to the season. When asked about the Palace speculation, Matos said: "I have nothing to say. I'm Swansea manager. "I love being here, love my players, love the staff, so my focus is always on the next game and what we can do better to play against Queens Park Rangers."
