Barcelona confirm Real Madrid El Clasico will go ahead despite workers’ strike
Barcelona confirm Real Madrid El Clasico will go ahead despite workers’ strike Barcelona have confirmed that Sunday’s La Liga clash against Real Madrid will take place as planned despite a three-day strike by seasonal workers at the club’s facilities, Mundo Deportivo reports. The strike is scheduled to begin at midnight on October 23 and end at 6:00 am on October 26, following a failed attempt to reach an agreement between the workers and the club at the Labour Court of Catalonia on Thursday. Around 60 seasonal workers are expected to take part in the industrial action to protest what they describe as a decline in their working conditions. Their concerns include a lack of staff to manage the various tasks required to organise sporting events across Barcelona’s facilities. Despite the planned protest, Barcelona insist they have enough resources to ensure all scheduled matches take place without changes. The club also made it clear that they would not use illegal methods to bring in replacement workers during the strike. The weekend’s biggest fixture is Sunday’s clash with Madrid , which is scheduled to kick off at 9:00 pm. The El Clasico is one of the most important matches on the Spanish football calendar, and any disruption would have raised concerns among supporters and organisers. However, the men’s first team will not be the only side affected by the strike. Barcelona have also confirmed that other professional teams will play their scheduled matches at the Spotify Camp Nou, Estadi Johan Cruyff and Palau Blaugrana. Youth team fixtures at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper will also go ahead as planned. The women’s first team are scheduled to host Granada in Liga F at the Estadi Johan Cruyff on Saturday at 8:30 pm. The men’s handball team will face Rebi Cuenca in the Liga Asobal on Friday at 7:00 pm. The club’s men’s basketball team will also be in action at the Palau Blaugrana, where they are scheduled to welcome Casademont Zaragoza in the Liga Endesa on Saturday at 9:00 pm. All these events fall within the strike period, leaving Barcelona to manage several major sporting occasions while dealing with workers’ complaints.
