UEFA snub Real Madrid dossier calling for Negreira case action

UEFA snub Real Madrid dossier calling for Negreira case action Earlier in the week, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez submitted a dossier to UEFA , in which he called for action to be taken against Barcelona over the ongoing Negreira case. Los Blancos officials have been pushing hard for their arch rivals to be punished over the matter, which saw them make payments to former Technical Committee of Referees vice-president Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira. Barcelona have maintained that the money paid for Negreira was for referee reports, and as such, there was no wrongdoing that took place. Real Madrid and Perez do not see it that way, which is why they are appearing as an injured party in the legal case, while also seeking sporting sanctions from the European football governing body. However, the latter will not be happening – at least for the time being. According to Sport , UEFA have knocked back Perez’s dossier, stating that it will be invalid until any resolution is reached in the legal case that is currently being presided over by Spain’s Prosecutor’s Office. UEFA are able to review the dossier, but they cannot issue a judgement until the Prosecutor’s Office gives their verdict on whether Barcelona are guilty of sporting corruption – which is the allegation that has been levelled at the Catalan club by Real Madrid and Perez. The governing body will respect the procedure of the Spanish legal system, which is why they will not make any move for the time being. Real Madrid could be waiting a while for both verdicts Image via Denis Doyle/Getty Images Real Madrid and Perez are very clear that they believe Barcelona are guilty, but any ruling on the matter is unlikely to be some time away. The Prosecutor’s Office has been investigating the matter for well over a year, and at this stage, an outcome does not appear to be very close to being reached.
