Vincent Kompany hospitalised after collapse at Bayern Munich training

Vincent Kompany hospitalised after collapse at Bayern Munich training Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany has reportedly been taken to hospital after collapsing following a training session at the club’s Saebener Strasse headquarters on Friday. According to Sky Sports Germany , the Belgian required immediate medical attention before being transported by ambulance to a hospital in Munich. A rescue helicopter was also seen landing at Bayern’s training complex, although reports indicate that Kompany was taken to hospital by road. The incident comes after the 40-year-old had been struggling with a viral infection that affected his legs and caused significant discomfort. Kompany had already experienced health problems before Bayern’s 6-1 Bundesliga victory over RB Leipzig last weekend, when he remained seated in the dugout for much of the match. He subsequently missed Tuesday’s training session and pre-match press conference ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League encounter with Arsenal. Assistant coach Aaron Danks took charge of media duties and explained that Kompany had been advised to rest while recovering from the illness. “It has affected his legs at times and he’s felt some pain,” Danks said . The Englishman also acknowledged the difficulty of persuading his colleague to take sufficient time away from his coaching responsibilities. “Getting Vince to rest is a challenge,” he added. Despite those concerns, Kompany recovered sufficiently to oversee Bayern’s 2-2 Champions League draw against Arsenal at the Allianz Arena. He later admitted that he had initially ignored warning signs after contracting the virus. “I caught a pretty nasty virus last week, and of course I didn’t listen to my body,” Kompany explained. The former Manchester City captain also revealed that his condition had eventually forced him to reconsider his workload. German newspaper Bild previously reported that the illness had aggravated hip problems, leaving Kompany struggling to stand for extended periods and climb stairs. Friday’s reported collapse has consequently raised fresh concerns about his recovery, just two days after his return to the touchline. Sky Sports Germany has since reported that Kompany is in a stable condition, although the precise circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear. Bayern have not issued a detailed official medical update at the time of reporting. The German champions are scheduled to face Freiburg in the Bundesliga on Sunday, with uncertainty surrounding Kompany’s availability for the fixture. Danks could assume greater responsibility if the Belgian requires additional time away from the training ground. For now, Bayern’s immediate priority will be ensuring that their manager receives appropriate medical attention and sufficient time to recover. Further clarification is expected as the club assesses his condition.
