Euro giants make stance on long-term Liverpool target clear
Euro giants make stance on long-term Liverpool target clear Liverpool have been linked with many players over the last couple of years. Even though they only just won the Premier League title back in the 2024-25 season, things have changed a lot since then. Everyone thought that Arne Slot was going to be the next coming of Jurgen Klopp but, in reality, he just played with the German's team and used his tactics, rather than creating his own identity. And, while this delivered results, it was clearly not going to work long-term, especially with how old some of Liverpool's first-team squad were getting. So, this led to an over £600 million spend across the last two years and, even more changes still need to be made. This is a crazy statement to make, especially because, when Klopp was in charge, Fenway Sports Group barely gave him any money to spend. But now, they're being linked with €100 million players each week with clubs now sharing their stance on the future of some Liverpool targets. Barcelona see Xavi Espart as an "untouchable" member of their squad amid Liverpool's interest Since Slot was sacked , Liverpool have been linked with many different players. In fact, despite only bringing four new ones in, they still spent over £150 million . However, even after splashing all this cash, their squad still isn't ready to compete for the Premier League title. They were thrashed 3-0 by Manchester City a couple of weeks ago and, their upcoming game against Brighton is causing a bit of concern. So, to try and combat this, fans believe that Liverpool will be spending a decent chunk of change in the next couple of windows on new players. And, thanks to an update from TEAMtalk, the Reds have now been handed an update in their pursuit of one of FC Barcelona's wonderkids. "Barcelona have made an emphatic decision on the future of Xavi Espart, with TEAMtalk able to confirm that Liverpool and Arsenal are among the clubs to have shown interest in the youngster," they wrote . "After a strong start to the campaign, the club announced an agreement to extend his contract until 30 June 2030. "Sources close to the situation indicate Barcelona view the teenager as effectively untouchable and would reject offers. "His release clause is well above €100million (£84m / $112m), underlining the club’s determination to protect one of its brightest prospects and shut down any risks of losing him. "TEAMtalk can confirm that Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich made approaches to Espart’s representatives before his new deal with Barcelona was sealed." Liverpool will have to direct their attention away from Xavi Espart Left-back is one of Liverpool's main problem areas at the moment. Kostas Tsimikas and Milos Kerkez have both failed to impress on multiple occasions this term and, although fans have asked for a new left-back to be brought in since Andy Robertson yet, a deal has never managed to come to fruition. Espart is the most recent player to emerge on Liverpool's radar as a potential left-back option but, now that he has a €100 million release clause, it's clear that move isn't going to work out. This could force Liverpool to look more into a deal for someone such as Alejandro Balde who has been pushed out of Hansi Flick's starting XI by Espart. Obviously, other players are available for the Reds to look into but, if they're wanting to get back to their best and prove that they can start challenging for silverware, these deals for their most-needed positions need to be completed as soon as posisble. Otherwise, some serious questions will need to be asked.
