Manchester City player ratings: Who failed to deliver in 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa? Manchester City 1 (Erling Haaland 52′) Aston Villa 2 (Nicolas Jackson 6′, 60′) Here are the City player ratings as Manchester City lost their first Premier League match of the season today. City were beaten 2-1 by Aston Villa at Villa Park. A brace from Nicolas Jackson sealed all three points for Unai Emery’s side. Erling Haaland did equalise for City seven minutes into the second half after Nicolas Jackson opened the scoring in the 6th minute. However, Nicolas Jackson scored the winner in the 60th minute. That goal sucked the life out of Enzo Maresca’s side and they failed to recover from that blow. Errors from Marc Guehi and Gianluigi Donnarumma didn’t help Manchester City’s cause. Aston Villa did well to seize upon them and Unai Emery once again masterminded a victory over Manchester City. The City player ratings reflect Manchester City’s performance. At times, City were very good but ultimately they didn’t do enough to leave Villa Park with a result. City player ratings. Gianluigi Donnarumma-3/10:  He had very little to do today but he must be better for Jackson’s second goal. It is as simple as that. Abdukodir Khusanov-7/10:  Khusanov was very good at right-back in the first half. He was better again at centre-back and I thought he had a good game. Ruben Dias-5/10: Dias toiled away but he did get dragged up the pitch too far by John McGinn. Marc Guehi-3/10: Again, Guehi made a costly error that cost his team a goal. He wasn’t nowhere near his best and was taken off at halftime. Josko Gvardiol-6/10:  Gvardiol toiled away up going forward but didn’t finish his chances. Elliot Anderson-7/10:  Manchester City’s best midfielder on the day in my opinion. Enzo Fernandez-6/10:  Fernandez was poor in the first half but better in the second. Iliman Ndiaye-7.5/10:  Ndiaye was by far and away Manchester City’s best performing attacking player. He grabbed an assist and was unlucky not to scroe his first City goal before was replaced by Ryan McAidoo. Rayan Cherki-5/10: It wasn’t Cherki’s game as he had no space to operate in. Also his work out of possession wasn’t what was required so he was taken off at halftime. Jeremy Doku-7/10:  He toiled away throughout the match and never stopped trying to create for his team. Erling Haaland-7/10:  Haaland grabbed bis obligatory goal and he never stopped fighting up front. Substitutes. Rico Lewis-6/10:  I see why Maresca brought him on but he didn’t see enough of the ball. Phil Foden-6/10:  Foden couldn’t get on the ball in dangerous areas after coming on. Ryan McAidoo-6/10: It was nice to see Maresca trust McAidoo to make an impact when City were down. He made some nice runs to show his intent.
