Pepe talks Mourinho, Konate, Bernardo Silva, potential return: ‘Real Madrid will win titles again’ Former Real Madrid defender Pepe was in action for Real Madrid Legends against Inter Milan Legends last night, and he scored one goal in the team’s 2-1 win. Speaking to the media after the game, the former defender was asked about a plethora of topics, primarily the  chances of him returning  to join Jose Mourinho’s coaching staff at Madrid. Beyond that serious discussion, however, he did also give his two cents on Real Madrid’s dressing room, weaknesses and what he made of the new signings via  MARCA . Pepe speaks on Real Madrid The Portuguese legend first gave his thoughts on Jose Mourinho returning as Real Madrid’s manager and highlighted the importance of bringing back unity behind the scenes. “The most important thing is that the club is united. It was a crucial moment to foster that unity between the club, the fans and players.” “Mourinho is a key figure in ensuring everyone is on the same page and to help Madrid return to glory,” he added. I woke up one morning and wondered what was going on, I hadn’t heard a thing.” Pepe then backed Real Madrid to get past this difficult moment and win titles again in the near future. “I am sure Real Madrid will win titles again.” The former player also gave his thoughts on the club’s latest centre-back signing, Ibrahima Konate, and sincerely hoped that the player would come good. “I like Ibrahima Konate. I hope he’s better than me. It would be a sign that things are going well in Madrid and that we’re winning trophies. That’s what I want.” Pepe has approved Konate’s signing. (Photo by Justin Setterfield/Getty Images) He also spoke on Real Madrid’s rumoured signing of Bernardo Silva and whether or not the player would be a good addition. “Bernardo Silva has a lot of quality. He’s indeed a free agent. I don’t know if it’s a possibility but the President knows what’s best for the squad.” Will Pepe return? Mourinho is said to be pushing for an assistant coach with a history at the club, one who can command the respect of the dressing room and bring unity. Pepe has been linked as one of the two top candidates on that front, and even highlighted that he is available for the club in a recent interview. “When we talk about Madrid, I am always very grateful. You never know. If someone needs me, like today, to play and help people, I am always available for Madrid.” As it stands, however, Ricardo Carvalho is the better-placed candidate to land that role and is a frontrunner over Mourinho.
