Domino effect? Nicky Hayen’s sacking by Burnley could put Belgian clubs on high alert
Domino effect? Nicky Hayen’s sacking by Burnley could put Belgian clubs on high alert Nicky Hayen’s time with Burnley is over. The former Genk and Club Brugge head coach joined the recently relegated side in the summer but was unable to bring consistency to the team. Hayen only managed 14 games in charge of Burnley before being sacked after the side lost 4-1 to newly promoted Lincoln City. Hayen averaged just 0.8 points per game with Burnley, a return of just two wins from his 14 games. It is not surprising that Hayen was let go by the club. Hayen is just the latest head coach to leave Belgium and go to England without much success. Last season, Ed Still joined Watford for a few months and was unable to turn things around, although few do with the Hornets these days. Yet back in Belgium, the experience with Burnley is unlikely to have dented the reputation of Hayen. As a result, under pressure managers will be feeling the strain even more knowing that Hayen is available. It is unclear how desperate he is to get back into football straight away, but most Belgian Pro League sides would likely welcome him given what he achieved during his time with Club Brugge.
