Burnley sack head coach Nicky Hayen after 14 games

Burnley sack head coach Nicky Hayen after 14 games Burnley have sacked Nicky Hayen as head coach after a disastrous start to the 2026-27 season. The Clarets announced the decision just hours after Saturday’s 4-1 defeat at Lincoln City. The club released the following statement that read : “Burnley Football Club has dismissed Head Coach Nicky Hayen with immediate effect. The Board has taken the decision following a disappointing start to the Championship season.” Hayen was appointed in July to succeed Scott Parker, who left the club at the end of April just days after their relegation from the Premier League was confirmed. The 46-year-old won the Belgian title with Club Brugge in 2024. He was tasked with leading Burnley back to the English top-flight but lasted only 14 games in charge. The Clarets held West Ham United to a promising draw on the opening weekend, but then endured a miserable run of form. West Bromwich Albion, Norwich City, Bristol City and Swansea City all took maximum points at their expense. Burnley claimed their first win of the season against Watford on their return from the international break. But they subsequently drew to Charlton Athletic and lost to Wolverhampton Wanderers. The defeat at Lincoln proved to be the final straw for Hayen as the Lancashire club decided to end their association. Burnley are currently 22nd in the Championship table , having collected just eight points from 12 games. They have the joint-worst defensive record in the division alongside Preston North End, conceding 25 goals in 12 matches.
