Confirmed: Barcelona tie down another top La Masia talent Barcelona have once again moved to secure the future of one of their brightest academy prospects, with highly-rated midfielder Samuel Borniquel becoming the latest youngster to sign his first professional contract with the club. The Catalan giants have made youth development one of the pillars of their sporting project, and the latest agreement further underlines the club’s determination to protect the next generation of La Masia talent from growing interest across Europe. Borniquel’s renewal arrives as Barcelona continue a busy period of contract extensions within the academy, with several highly regarded youngsters committing their futures to the club in recent weeks. Academy project gathers momentum The 16-year-old midfielder officially signed his first professional deal, becoming the latest member of Barcelona’s promising 2010 generation to put pen to paper. Borniquel joined Barcelona from Real Zaragoza in 2024 and is considered one of the standout midfield prospects within his age group.  Comfortable in possession and known for his intelligence on the ball, the youngster has quickly established himself as a player the club views as part of its long-term plans. His contract signing came only hours after another member of the same generation, Gorka Buil, also secured his future with the Blaugrana . Like Borniquel, Buil arrived from Real Zaragoza and has impressed club officials since making the move to Catalonia.  The club have also recently secured the future of Hugo Garces, another talented midfielder from Zaragoza’s academy system who joined Barcelona several years ago and remains highly regarded within La Masia. More talents committing their futures to Barcelona Borniquel’s renewal is part of a much bigger strategy currently being implemented by Barcelona’s academy department. Over the past few weeks, the club have focused heavily on ensuring that some of their most exciting young players remain tied to the project as they continue their development. Among the prospects who have recently signed professional contracts are forwards Artem Rybak and Noah Garcia, midfielders Oscar Medina, Ignasi Bassas and Unai Balmon, defenders Guiu Xuclà, Ahmed Abarkane, Pere Villacorta and Luca Perez, as well as goalkeeper Elliot Daussy. One notable exception is Ebrima Tunkara , who continues to progress at an accelerated rate and is already viewed as a player capable of moving through the academy system faster than many of his peers.
