Duran With 8, Hogh Gets 5 | Celtic Players Rated In Their Win Against Hibernian
Duran With 8, Hogh Gets 5 | Celtic Players Rated In Their Win Against Hibernian After another disappointing European defeat on Thursday night, Celtic travelled to Edinburgh this afternoon to face Hibernian. The hosts, currently rock bottom in the Premiership, were desperate to bounce back under new boss Marink Reedijk. They had a perfect start, thanks to Owen Elding’s early opener. But an own goal from Jason Kerr’s moments later, followed by Camilo Duran’s strike late in the first half, saved Martin O’Neill from back-to-back setbacks. Below are the Celtic players rated in their 2-1 win against Hibernian. Sam Johnstone: 6 Retained his place in goal despite the midweek disappointment. Conceded early in the game when Elding slotted home. Was hardly tested otherwise, with Hibs failing to threaten him enough other than a header from Adam Mayor minutes after the break. Colby Donovan: 6.5 Kept his starting spot, as the first-choice right-back Alistair Johnston was only fit enough for the bench after a long injury layoff. Won duels, engaged in timely tackles and blocks, but his crosses and end product lacked accuracy before the Canadian made way for him early in the second half. Dane Murray: 6.5 Could have done better defensively to stop Elding’s goal. Improved with time, as he dominated aerial duels, defensive contributions and no-nonsense clearances in deep defence. Liam Scales: 7 Had plenty of touches as he tried to play it out from the back. Could have moved the ball faster on a few occasions. But the Irishman performed his defensive duties with clearances, recoveries and timely tackles. Kieran Tierney: 7 Balanced his game between defence and attack, even though his crosses and long balls were not always accurate. Did well to contain Josh Mulligan, who could not cause enough menace in the Hoops’ backline. Callum McGregor: 7 Tested Raphael Sallinger with a long-distance attempt. His duels and tackles often broke the home side’s build-up play in the middle of the park. Mika Baur: 7.5 The high-flying German international impressed once again with his movements, link-up play, passing and vision. Created chances for the attackers, and his down-the-middle runs opened up space in the Hibs half. Made way for Shumaira Mheuka with 20 minutes remaining, but his goal saved the champions from an embarrassment at Easter Road. Benjamin Nygren: 6.5 Failed to spot Elding’s run for the early goal. Compensated minutes later when Kerr netted an own goal from the Swedish playmaker’s corner. Despite being productive high up the pitch, his lack of work ethic remains under scrutiny. Callum Osmand: 6.5 Struggled for fitness of late, and the gaffer opted to take him off just over the hour mark after little impact from the left-hand flank. Jota was brought in as a like-for-like replacement. Kasper Hogh: 5 Another disappointing outing for the club-record signing who missed a couple of scoring opportunities while spearheading the attack. The Danish centre-forward, low in confidence, was replaced by Haissem Hassan midway through the second half. Celtic Subs vs Hibernian Alistair Johnston: 6 O’Neill has apparently rushed his return, with the Canadian forced to leave the pitch with another injury. Carter-Vickers replaced him with 20 minutes remaining. Jota: 7 Looked lively down the wide with his dribbles, crosses and directness. Haissem Hassan: 6.5 Threatened with his runs, cut-ins, and swift one-twos in and around the box. Cameron Carter-Vickers: 6.5 Returned from injury and replaced Johnston, who only lasted 20 minutes since his introduction. Managed to bolster the backline and defend the lead to seal all three points on the road. Shumaira Mheuka: 5.5 Failed to make any notable contribution since replacing Duran late in the game.
