Barclays WSL2 results: Nottingham Forest hold leaders Newcastle United as Ipswich Town slip into second Stormy conditions helped deliver goals galore across Barclays Women’s Super League 2 (WSL2) match-week six results. League leaders Newcastle United came back from 2-0 down to secure a 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest. Meanwhile, Ipswich Town replaced Sunderland in second, who they beat 3-1. Bristol City rose to fourth after beating Wolves 4-2, while Burnley and Sheffield United played out a seven-goal thriller, with the Blades coming out on top. Leicester City scored late to share the points with Southampton, and Watford hit four goals to beat Durham 4-2. Durham remain the only side without a point so far this season. Here’s how the latest round of WSL 2 matches unfolded. Bristol City score four in busy first half against Wolves Bristol City hosted Wolves at Ashton Gate and it was the visitors who struck first through Amber Hughes. However, the Robins didn’t take long to respond. There was brilliant play from Marine Dafeur, who passed to Katie Robinson to fire in from a tight angle. Gemma Lawley then provided a cross for Brooke Aspen to nod in and make it 2-1. A frantic first half continued for the home side as Rio Hardy scored her foutth of the season. The striker converted after a miscued Dafeur pass found her in the area, and she struck across goal into the bottom corner. In the second half, Dafeur got the goal her performance deserved and put the game beyond doubt. The Algeria international won the ball back inside the area and fired a rocket into the top corner. Wolves got one back to make it 4-2 as Hughes got her fifth of the season. Sheffield United beat Burnley to win seven-goal thriller Burnley hosted Sheffield United at Turf Moor on a sunny and goal-filled afternoon for fans. Blades captain Molly Rouse broke the deadlock in the eighth minute as she reacted first to a loose ball from a corner. Burnley responded well as a Leah Galton cross was met by Emma Siddall, who struck low for 1-1. Siddall then turned provider as her cross from the right-hand side was met brilliantly by the onrushing Galton to get her first for Burnley and make it 2-1. Early in the second half, the Blades equalised. An in-swinging corner from Charlie Devlin found Halle Houssein, who reacted quickly to fire into the net. Sheffield United then hit a stroke of luck for their third. Ava Baker made a positive run on the right wing and as she struck from the edge of the area the ball took a wicked deflection to deceive the goalkeeper. The Blades then sealed the win with a long range effort from substitute Abbey Jones. She hit the back of the net from a low-drive on the edge of the box. Burnley nicked a goal back late on but it was merely a consolation in an action-packed match. Leicester City score late equaliser to share points with Southampton Araya Dennis fired the Foxes in front early on to make it 1-0. A corner delivered into a busy penalty area was headed towards goal by Paulina Nystrom. Before the keeper could claim it, Dennis nodded it into the net from close range. Leicester then created their own downfall, which in part could be blamed on the blinding sunshine their goalkeeper and defenders found themselves facing. Simone Sherwood failed to clear a ball out for a corner. Mary Bashford stole it before crossing in for Freya Jupp to fire beyond Katie Keane in goal and make it 1-1. No sunshine to blame for the second goal. Ellie Brazil provided an assist for Jupp to bag her brace with a scuffed finish from inside the area to make it 2-1. Leicester City didn’t give up, and Jessie Stapleton passed a curling ball beyond the Saints defenders into the path of an onrushing Alisha Lehmann. The striker finished brilliantly beyond Grace Maloney to help her team get a point. Watford hit four goals to beat Durham 4-2 Embed from Getty Images Watford and Durham represent two of the three teams without a WSL2 win yet this season. The Golden Girls struck first in the 18th minute. Maddison Perry provided a brilliant low cross into the box that Phoebe Poole tapped in from close range for 1-0. The second half turned into a goal fest. Vera Jones pounced on some poor defending and struck beyond Cat Sheppard to make it 2-0. Aoibheann Clancy then struck an Olimpico for Watford’s’ third, beating the goalkeeper directly from a corner. Maddison Perry then scored a goal for herself, beating Sheppard from the edge of the area with a lobbed strike and the help of a deflection from the crossbar. Statistically, this match looked fairly even, but the scoreline says Watford took their chances and Durham didn’t. However, Beth Hepple took hers. A defensive header found Hepples’ left boot and she struck a first time volley to make 4-1. Hepple then scored again well into stoppage time as she hit in a ferocious free-kick from 30 yards, a well-struck consolation for her side. Newcastle United come back from 2-0 down for Nottingham Forest draw Nottingham Forest hosted league leaders Newcastle United at the City Ground, with both teams unbeaten this season. Despite early pressure from the Magpies, it was the home side that took the lead early on. The strong wind could give Newcastle goalkeeper Kayla Rendell a get-out clause as a Letitia McKenna’s shot beat her to make it 1-0. The hosts then got a second from the penalty spot. A pinpoint long ball over the top by Georgia Brougham found Tuva Espås, who was fouled by Gemma Evans. Letitia McKenna converted from the spot for her brace to make it 2-0. In the second half, Newcastle struck first. A mazy run by Beth Lumsden, who fired a low ball across the penalty area to find the foot of Kathleen McGovern, who tapped in from close range. The Magpies showed their quality in the second half and equalised through BWSL2 top scorer Martha Thomas. A Jordan Nobbs cross caused chaos in the Forest penalty area and rebounded in off of Thomas to make it 2-2. Ipswich Town win against fellow high-flyers Sunderland Ipswich Town started the day in third place in the table, hosting Sunderland, who sat one place above them in second. Elise Hughes scored in the third minute to get her fifth goal of the season. Tess Laplacette crossed a corner into the box, and it was met with a bullet header from Hughes. Ipswich were quick to respond through Georgia Timms. A through ball found a strong Timms, who struck her first goal of the season, showing real quality. She hit a powerful low effort from outside the penalty area, and the ball curled beyond a diving Fran Stenson to make it 1-1. Sunderland were then reduced to 10 players as Laplacette was judged to be the last player and brought down an advancing Timms, stopping a potential attack on goal. Ipswich made their player advantage count as Princess Ademiluyi bagged a brace. Her first goal came from a good chop in on the right hand side of the area and a powerful strike beyond Stenson to make it 2-1. Ademiluyi then latched onto a Maria Boswell ball over the top and volleyed brilliantly to bag the three points for the Tractor Girls.
