Real Madrid hero Andriy Lunin reveals the key to 2-1 win over Barcelona: ‘Discipline and attitude’

Real Madrid hero Andriy Lunin reveals the key to 2-1 win over Barcelona: ‘Discipline and attitude’ Andriy Lunin played a decisive role in Real Madrid’s 2-1 victory over Barcelona at Camp Nou on Sunday, producing a spectacular save to deny Gerard Martin in the 66th minute.  The goalkeeper subsequently highlighted the discipline, determination and collective effort behind the victory, as Real Madrid extended their winning run to five consecutive matches. With Barcelona enjoying more possession, Lunin believes his side’s ability to remain organised and withstand pressure proved crucial in securing three important points in El Clasico. Lunin identifies discipline and determination as keys to victory Real Madrid had to work hard to protect their advantage against Barcelona, with Lunin producing a standout moment shortly after the hour mark.  The goalkeeper stressed that winning away from home against a major rival required more than technical quality, pointing to the mentality his teammates displayed throughout the contest. “Discipline and attitude were key because Barcelona had more possession.  “Determination was important too, because playing away is tough, and these three points were vital today because we all know how things stood.” Andriy Lunin was fantastic against Barcelona. When you can dominate, play well and try to keep a clean sheet, you do so, but when the match gets tough – especially against big rivals like today’s – you have to know how to dig deep, manage the game and stay united as a team right until the end.” Lunin credits daily work for spectacular save Lunin’s reaction save to Gerard Martin’s header was one of the defining moments of the second half.  The Ukrainian goalkeeper credited the work done in training for his ability to deliver when called upon, acknowledging the influence of goalkeeping coach Nuno. “Nuno (the goalkeeping coach) always says ‘well trained’, and I think that’s down to the daily work.” Lunin’s warning to Real Madrid Despite the significance of beating Barcelona, Lunin insisted Real Madrid must not allow their run of five consecutive victories to distract them from the work still required.  Lunin produced a spectacular save against Barcelona. We have to keep improving because there’s plenty of room for improvement.  “We have to improve as a team and it’s a journey. We’ve got a lot of work ahead of us.” Lunin also referred to the mentality behind Real Madrid’s winning goal and the club’s determination to keep fighting until the final whistle. “In recent years, the team has really embraced the motto ‘Right to the end, come on Real’.  “We need to focus more on our work because this team always wants to win and it’s not easy – that’s why we have to work really hard,” he concluded.
