Sunderland retain Geny Catamo interest; Newcastle, Leeds, Everton join the race
Sunderland retain Geny Catamo interest; Newcastle, Leeds, Everton join the race Sunderland were interested in Sporting CP winger Geny Catamo (25) over the summer. Whilst they failed to get a deal over the line, they retain their interest, according to Franco-Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri. Over the summer, the Black Cats were willing to go as high as €40m to secure the services of the Mozambique international. However, Sporting CP were not willing to negotiate. The winger has a €60m release clause that the Premier League side were unwilling to meet. With clubs already planning for the January transfer window, Sunderland are particularly attentive to the market given their position at the bottom of the Premier League table. In 12 appearances in all competitions, Catamo has played 12 games, scored two goals and registered four assists. If Sunderland are to return for Catamo, they are no longer willing to go up to the €40m that they were open to paying a couple of months ago. Their new limit is set at €35m. They may face competition from their local rivals, Newcastle United, Tavolieri understands. Everton, Leeds United, AFC Bournemouth, and Brentford are also in the race to sign the winger.
