Lots of positives for Sørensen in Aston Villa’s win at Everton
Lots of positives for Sørensen in Aston Villa’s win at Everton Aston Villa’s interim head coach Brian Sørensen saw lots of positives in his side’s 3-2 victory over Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon. An Amalie Vangsgaard brace and a Noelle Maritz goal secured the three points for The Villans on Merseyside. Speaking to the media after the match, Aston Villa’s interim boss Sorensen said that there were lots of positives to take from his side’s performance. “At the end of the day, we take the three points and that’s what’s important,” Sørensen said. “I think [there were] a lot of things that I was really happy with, especially in that first 60 minutes. We were very dominant, looked really good on the ball, strong defensively. “I think the reason why we run out of energy at the end was because we’re playing four games in 10-12 days or something like that. Yeah, very happy, of course. We have back-to-back [league] wins, so it’s really good.” Switzerland international defender Maritz appeared to play in more of an attacking role during the game and Sørensen shared his reasoning behind this. He said “We know that space they will leave, so we were telling her if you get in those positions, you could get on the end of a ball and she did that. I think she had a chance 10 minutes later that she decided to pass instead of going for goal. “It is good to see Noelle, she’s been doing [well]. It’s also her third 90 minutes now, so that’s pretty good.” The conditions were poor in Liverpool with a storm in full force and Sørensen thanked the travelling fans who made the long journey. He said “That’s why we play football; to make sure that the fans enjoy [the game]. Hopefully, they enjoyed this game, it was fun. I’ve got so much respect for people travelling up and down the country in these conditions, so we’re glad we can give them three points to go home with.” It was a happy return to Goodison Park for Sørensen, who was sacked by Everton back in February. The Dane has no ill feeling towards the Merseyside club. He said “It was good [to come back]. I have a lot of good relationships with the players and staff here. I enjoyed my time here, but now, I’m at Villa and I’m really also enjoying that. “It was nice to be back for sure. I have no bad blood with Everton at all and I really enjoyed my time here.” Aston Villa are next in action when they play host to Birmingham City in the Subway Players Cup on Wednesday night.
