Boyd Questions Celtic’s £11m Striker: Should Durán Lead The Line?

Boyd Questions Celtic’s £11m Striker: Should Durán Lead The Line? Celtic’s 2-1 win over Hibernian kept them four points clear at the top of the Premiership, but Kasper Høgh’s latest display has sharpened questions about Martin O’Neill’s choice of centre-forward. Hibs scored after three minutes at Easter Road, and Jason Kerr’s own goal quickly restored parity. Camilo Durán then produced the decisive moment before half-time, curling a left-footed finish into the corner for his 10th Celtic goal of the season. Meanwhile, Høgh missed two first-half chances before leaving the pitch in the 64th minute. Celts are Here reported former Rangers striker Kris Boyd’s criticism of the Danish forward, which he delivered on Sky Sports. Celtic reportedly paid £11m for Høgh, who opened his league account with a hat-trick against Kilmarnock on 9 August. Since then, he has gone 12 matches without a goal across competitions. Boyd questioned whether Celtic would keep selecting Høgh if the club had not spent such a large fee, arguing that Durán looks more effective through the middle. He said the Colombian had reason to feel frustrated after scoring decisive goals while playing away from his preferred central role. “I can totally understand his frustration. If Celtic hadn’t paid £11million for Kasper Hogh, would they continue persevering with him up front? Because right now he’s offering absolutely nothing. “When Camilo Duran plays through the middle, Celtic look a far better team. So yes, I can understand why he’s frustrated. “At the same time, he’s scored another match-winning goal today. It’s easy for us to sit here and say he’s sulking, but he’ll leave with the winner and he’ll be happy with that.” He continued: “But I completely understand his point of view. If I’m the player scoring the goals and putting in the performances, and people are coming away from games saying I’ve been Celtic’s best striker, why am I being moved out of position just to accommodate someone because of the transfer fee? “I’ll say it again, Kasper Hogh is offering absolutely nothing for me.” Should O’Neill start Durán through the middle instead? (Photo by Ian MacNicol/Getty Images) Celtic have a clear selection problem, even after a valuable away win. Høgh’s price tag cannot decide the team sheet; the manager must choose the forward who gives Celtic the best chance of winning. Durán’s 10 goals this season strengthen his case, while his finish at Easter Road showed the composure Celtic needed after a difficult European week. His movement gives the attack a different rhythm, particularly when he drops into space to link with teammates or runs beyond defenders to attack the penalty area. That does not mean O’Neill should write Høgh off after a poor run. The Dane needs a clearer role, better support and time to regain confidence, but he should earn starts through performances rather than reputation. For now, Durán deserves a run as the central striker. Celtic can protect their investment without sacrificing form, and Høgh must start answering Boyd’s criticism on the pitch.
