Barcelona captain Raphinha likes video questioning Ballon d’Or criteria after Harry Kane triumph Barcelona enjoyed one of their most successful campaigns in recent years during the 2025/25 season. They secured the domestic treble under Hansi Flick. Raphinha played a leading role for Barça that season, but despite his outstanding performances, he finished only fifth in the Ballon d’Or voting the following year. According to SPORT , Raphinha has now liked a TikTok video posted by content creator Dani Quintana questioning the consistency of the award’s criteria following Harry Kane’s victory on Monday. Raphinha’s 2024/25 campaign compared with Kane’s success Kane secured the 2026 Ballon d’Or after an extraordinary campaign with Bayern Munich, recording 73 goals and eight assists in 65 appearances. The Englishman also won three domestic trophies and reached the Champions League semi-finals. Quintana highlighted the similarities between the Englishman’s accolades and Raphinha’s achievements a year earlier. Raphinha finished 5th in the Ballon d’Or rankings last year. He recorded 56 goal contributions and finished as both the leading scorer and assist provider in Europe’s elite competition. Despite those achievements, Raphinha finished fifth in the 2025 Ballon d’Or rankings, with Ousmane Dembele eventually claiming the award following PSG’s triumph. One of the biggest Ballon d’Or snubs in recent times The 2025 Ballon d’Or continues to be one of the most debated in recent times due to Raphinha’s final position in the voting. While no one can argue that Ousmane Dembele didn’t deserve it, Raphinha finishing fifth felt too low for the kind of season he had. Harry Kane was awarded the Ballon d’Or last night. (Photo by Gareth Cattermole/Getty Images) Kane’s 73-goal campaign certainly deserves recognition, and his scoring numbers were considerably higher. However, Raphinha’s influence extended beyond just finishing chances, as he helped Barça with his creativity, pressing and attacking movement. The Englishman, after a very similar season in terms of overall accolades, now finds himself a Ballon d’Or winner. Ultimately, different seasons produce different candidates, making direct comparisons imperfect. Nevertheless, Raphinha was treated unfairly last season and will hope to put in an excellent campaign this time around to give himself a chance next year.
