Sunderland Are Facing Stiff Competition For This AC Milan Defender: Is He Worth The Fight? In a recent report , journalist Graeme Bailey claimed that Sunderland are facing stiff competition for AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori. It has been mentioned that the Black Cats would have to rival Manchester United, Aston Villa, Newcastle United, Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur in the race to land the English centre-back next year. Tomori’s Impressive Form In Serie A Last Season Tomori enjoyed a good run of form at the Milan club in the previous campaign when he produced a string of solid displays for them on the defensive end of the pitch. The 28-year-old picked up three assists in 37 matches for AC Milan last season in various competitions. The English talent is currently one of the most talented centre-backs in Serie A. Hence, it is no surprise that the Black Cats are in the race to secure his services in 2027. His current contract at the San Siro will expire at the end of this campaign, which could open the door for Sunderland to land him on the cheap in this January transfer period or on a free transfer next summer. Tomori is a good tackler of the ball and can scan the danger well to earn possession back for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when required and is a tidy passer as well from the back. Standing at 1.85m, the English talent can use his strong frame to win a few 50-50 aerial duels for his team. Tomori is primarily a centre-back but can also serve as a right-back if asked to do so. He is already quite familiar with the Premier League from his time at Chelsea and won’t take any time to adjust to life at Sunderland . We can expect Tomori to add more bite and steel to Regis Le Bris’ defence. He has what it takes to fight for a regular starting spot at the Stadium of Light. At 28, Tomori is about to enter his prime, which makes him a decent choice for the Black Cats to pursue next year. He would be well worth the fight, so Le Bris should consider going all out to sign him.
