Liverpool finally in position to beat Real Madrid in fierce transfer fight
Liverpool finally in position to beat Real Madrid in fierce transfer fight Liverpool have suffered in the transfer market at the hands of Real Madrid. Now they're finally in position to hit back. Liverpool have had rotten luck with Real Madrid for many years now. It feels that every single time the Reds want an elite-level talent, the Spaniards rock up and turn his head. Now, of course, that’s not entirely true as Liverpool have landed some world-class players, especially in recent years. But one look at Real Madrid’s team that played out their 2-1 win over Barcelona at the weekend and you’ll see a host of names who could have been playing for Liverpool. Dean Huijsen, Ibrahima Konate, Denzel Dumfries, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Aurelien Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga, Jude Bellingham, Kylian Mbappe, and Yan Diomande all had offers from Liverpool at one point or another. Dumfries is the only one who didn’t face a choice between the two to some extent - the Reds’ offer came in a different window to Real Madrid’s. But we’re legitimately looking at nine players there. You can actually add more Real Madrid stars to the list, too: Endrick and Rodrygo Goes both rejected the chance to join Liverpool to instead try and win a place with Los Blancos. Maybe, though, Liverpool have a chance to bring this awful run to an end. They’re in position to finally beat Real Madrid to a top talent. Liverpool want Luka Vuskovic TeamTalk reports that Liverpool want to sign Luka Vuskovic from Brighton. Everyone does, to be fair, as he’s one of the outstanding young centre-backs on the planet right now and looks at home in the Premier League. Our Value Adder data model ranks him extraordinarily well - one of those players where if you can sign them, you should. Real Madrid also want Vuskovic, says the report, along with Barcelona. But we think Liverpool have the advantage here. Real Madrid certainly want a new centre-back but they do actually have an established pairing. Dean Huijsen signed as their next-big-thing a year ago and then they added Ibrahima Konate as a senior option this summer. The opportunities for Vuskovic at Real Madrid aren’t exactly clear. Liverpool, though? Well, we imagine Virgil van Dijk will depart in the summer, with Joe Gomez heading off with him. It’s unclear whether Ronald Araujo joins permanently, too. So there is certainly space for Vuskovic to step right into the first-team setup. That guarantee of minutes appears to be something he’s after, too, given he jumped from Tottenham Hotspur to Brighton in the summer. Liverpool can help him continue on that path in a way that Real Madrid can’t. And that might just swing things in the Reds’ direction. Finally.
