Real Madrid legend praises Jose Mourinho’s Clasico masterclass: ‘They played exceptionally well’ Real Madrid’s 2-1 victory over Barcelona has restored confidence around the Santiago Bernabeu after a difficult period against their biggest rivals. Jose Mourinho’s side not only secured three important points but also showcased a level of tactical organisation that had been missing in recent Clasicos . As quoted by Diario AS , former Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos has praised Mourinho’s work, particularly in Sunday’s game. Kroos credits Mourinho for changing Real Madrid’s approach Kroos identified the Portuguese manager as the main reason for Sunday’s victory at the Spotify Camp Nou . “Over the last two years, the Clasicos had been going Barcelona’s way,” Kroos said, acknowledging Madrid’s struggles in previous meetings. “But that has changed, and I have to praise Mourinho’s work. They played exceptionally well, and he prepared the match brilliantly.” Toni Kroos had huge words of praise for Jose Mourinho. He singled out Dean Huijsen’s marking of Fermin Lopez and the pressure applied to Barcelona’s midfield. “Players like Pedri and Raphinha looked uncomfortable, and Madrid forced them into mistakes they don’t normally make,” he explained. Kroos also praised the team’s intensity, adding: “Real Madrid defended as a team. They played an excellent match defensively and with the ball.” He believes Mourinho successfully exploited Barcelona’s difficulties when their pressing system fails, preventing Flick’s men from enjoying their usual control. Kroos sends message to Vinicius and praises Mbappe The former midfielder also discussed Vinicius Junior’s absence, admitting he would have enjoyed watching the Brazilian exploit the space behind Joao Cancelo. Kroos also had high praise for both Vinicius and Mbappe, calling them “a gift for midfielders” because of their extraordinary speed. He highlighted how Arda Guler is able to thrive by releasing the Frenchman, who has formed an excellent relationship with the Turkish international. Kroos admitted that the victory at the Camp Nou was satisfying after two years of disappointing results against Barcelona. “Now it’s time to enjoy ourselves and have fun,” he concluded. Mourinho might not exactly agree with Kroos’ final statement, as he has shown absolutely no signs of easing off after the Clasico victory. The Portuguese manager was already analysing footage from the game on the flight back from Barcelona. With Racing Santander up next, it remains to be seen whether Los Blancos can ride the wave and secure another victory this weekend.
