Real Madrid issue official apology to China after Mbappe’s remarks
Real Madrid issue official apology to China after Mbappe’s remarks Real Madrid have found themselves in a tough spot following Kylian Mbappe’s recent comments, where he joked about how he found the depiction of him as Mao Dezong funny. Mbappe’s comments led to an upheaval in China with several sponsors cancelling deals with the French star, including Dongpeng Beverage, Mengniu and Milkground. Beyond that, China has officially decided to suspend the broadcast of La Liga in the country, leading to a major concern. Mbappe was ultimately forced to issue an apology following the uproar, as he acknowledged having hurt sentiments in China. Real Madrid also issue apology A day later, Real Madrid, too, have now issued an apology to China. As representative of the player, the club have apologised to the people of China in behalf of Mbappe for having hurt the sentiment of the community. “Real Madrid C.F. wishes to apologize to the Chinese people for any distress that may have been caused by the recent remarks made by our player, Kylian Mbappe,” the club wrote in a statement. “Our club holds deep respect for China—its history, its culture, and its citizens—as well as for the millions of Chinese fans who feel affection and admiration for Real Madrid ,” the club added. Real Madrid added that the club joins Mbappe in asking for apology for the comments the Frenchman mate in connection to the meme. “ The club joins in the public apology offered by Kylian Mbappe, in which the player himself has expressed regret for his words and reiterated his respect for the Chinese people. “Real Madrid reaffirms its commitment to the values of respect, coexistence, and cross-cultural understanding, and expresses its desire to continue strengthening the bonds of friendship and affection that connect it to China and its citizens ,” the club wrote. As is the norm, the club earns a significant portion from the player’s image rights and China is a key market for the club, with the nation having a strong following for Mbappe. Losing out on revenue and drawing the ire of the Chinese people were never going to make sense for Real Madrid, who have taken a more globalist approach in recent years, trying to build their fan base across the world. China is also an important economy for sponsorships and reach. Real Madrid cannot risk losing that at any cost.
