How Mourinho has reinvented key superstar’s role at Real Madrid this season

How Mourinho has reinvented key superstar’s role at Real Madrid this season Jose Mourinho believes Jude Bellingham is at his most effective when operating as a number 10 close to goal, with the Real Madrid manager giving the England international greater attacking freedom this season, according to a report from AS . Bellingham’s role has changed under successive managers, with Carlo Ancelotti using him closer to the forward line and Xabi Alonso viewing him primarily as a midfielder.  Mourinho, however, has sought to maximise the 23-year-old’s influence by allowing him to create and finish attacks without imposing the same defensive workload that previously limited his impact. Bellingham’s leadership strengthens his relationship with Mourinho Mourinho also values qualities that extend beyond Bellingham’s technical ability.  His competitive mentality, high standards in training and desire to understand tactical decisions have reportedly helped the pair establish a strong working relationship. This combination of personality and tactical curiosity has helped make the midfielder a leading figure within the squad.  Goals and assists highlight Bellingham’s influence Bellingham has recorded three goals and three assists this season, numbers that underline his contribution in the final third, although his importance also comes from his involvement in possession. Notably, the Clasico was an exception to the pattern of increased attacking freedom.  Nevertheless, Mourinho’s approach is designed to reduce the defensive burden that previously restricted Bellingham’s influence while keeping his competitive edge intact.
