Bernd Schuster points out the weakness in Flick’s Barcelona: ‘The attack is a machine, but…’ Nobody would have seen Barcelona’s ill-timed fate coming, for the past week has destroyed all the momentum and positivity that they patiently built over months. Just when they seemed more prepared than ever before to take on the big guns, the Catalans suffered back-to-back defeats against PSG and Real Madrid and have now hit rock bottom compared to where they were just over a week ago. All of a sudden, the team’s defence has once again come under the spotlight although what has truly let the team down in recent games is a substandard collective effort. Former German player speaks Former Barcelona and Real Madrid player Bernd Schuster recently spoke via SPORT and gave his honest opinion on Hansi Flick’s Barcelona and the team’s strengths and weaknesses. It is the great goal and I would be happy for the whole club and for Flick, because they have built something very important in recent years.” “To impose itself, Barça still has to work on a weakness: defence,” he added. The former player then heaped praise on Barcelona’s attack and called it a game-changer, but concurrently highlighted why it was not enough. “Because of their offensive style, they usually concede two or more goals.” “The attack is a machine, but against the big rivals, like Bayern or Paris Saint-Germain, you can’t always score so many goals,” he added. Barcelona failed their biggest tests. (Photo by Alex Caparros/Getty Images) Schuster then praised Hansi Flick for the change he has brought to Barcelona, despite all the criticism he had about the team’s defence. “It’s a blessing for the club.” “Now all the players run to get the ball back, even Lamine Yamal,” he added. On what Flick brought to the team over his predecessors and where changes are conspicuous, he said, “With Flick, there is German discipline and you really sweat again, both on the field and in the gym.” “Unlike what happened with Xavi, the team is no longer exhausted after 30 minutes when a good rival faces him,” he added. Finally, the former player gave his two cents on Lamine Yamal and what he made of the youngster’s talent. “He’s a great guy, not arrogant at all.” “If the injuries don’t stop him, he will have a huge future,” he concluded.
