CR7 voted greatest Ballon d'Or winner of all time; see the rankings The 2008 'version' of Cristiano Ronaldo has been voted the Ballon d'Or winner of all time. The announcement was made on Wednesday (28) on the award's official website, which uses the acronym B.O.A.T. (Ballon d'Or of All Time) to describe the winner. It is a play on the expression G.O.A.T. (Greatest of All Time). The public vote featured every player who had won the Ballon d'Or at least twice during their career. In 2008, Cristiano Ronaldo won the first of his five career Ballon d'Or trophies. He was still playing for Manchester United and helped the club win the Champions League that year. The top 12 spots in the B.O.A.T. rankings were occupied by either the Portuguese star or Argentina's Lionel Messi. 📸 ANDREW YATES - 2008 AFP Each vote cost one euro.
