£47m defender deal is a no brainer: Liverpool are happy to pay it

£47m defender deal is a no brainer: Liverpool are happy to pay it Liverpool look set for another major defensive overhaul in summer 2027. We will see Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez leave the club - while right-back continues to be an issue plaguing Andoni Iraola’s side. One player who has already had a transformative effect on the Reds since arriving on loan is Ronald Araujo . And according to a report in Football Insider it looks like the 2024/25 Premier League champions will be signing the 27-year-old on a permanent basis next summer. Liverpool 'happy' to pay £47m for Araujo deal “Araujo is on loan from Barcelona with an option to buy reportedly set at £47million - a fee that Liverpool will be happy to pay if he continues to deliver displays as he is currently doing,” the report reads . The Uruguayan stopper has got into the team at right-back rather than his usual centre-back berth. His performances however have already endeared him to the Anfield faithful . Fans are taken with his commitment and tenacity - particularly during the weekend Premier League victory over Brighton. 'Never fall in love with a loan player' The old saying is “never fall in love with a loan player” but Anfield fans cannot help but falling for Araujo early in his Liverpool tenure. A deal was struck with Barcelona last summer which saw Araujo take a slight pay cut in order to move to Merseyside on an initial one-year loan. A stipulation in the contract states that the Reds will have the option to sign the South American for around £47m at the end of the current campaign should all parties agree. Araujo deal is a no-brainer Right now it is a no-brainer with Araujo providing expert service down the right as well as hard work and dedication in his defensive tasks. Liverpool will likely be waving goodbye to both Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez in summer 2027 - opening the door to a centre-back signing. And with Jeremie Frimpong no longer a contender at right-back - and Conor Bradley injured - it opens up the possibility of Araujo starring there next season too. It might be a lot of money for a player turning 28 before the season’s end but Araujo has slotted in well and made himself at home. It’s no wonder Julian Ward will be happy to pay the £47m should these performances continue.
