Maignan won’t throw ‘fuel on fire’ after Milan’s 4-2 loss vs. Bologna

Maignan won’t throw ‘fuel on fire’ after Milan’s 4-2 loss vs. Bologna Milan captain Mike Maignan says the Rossoneri must ‘remain composed’ and avoid ‘throwing fuel on fire’ after a 4-2 home loss to Bologna: ‘We shouldn’t draw conclusions based on one match or two months.’ Milan suffered a 4-2 loss against Bologna at San Siro on Wednesday, dropping seven points below Inter and Lazio at the top of the Serie A table. A reporter told the goalkeeper that fans and media expected him to talk last week, after he was sent off in a Europa League match against Bournemouth. “I came for the team; I didn’t particularly want to speak to you today,” Maignan replied via Milannews. “This is an important moment for the team; it’s our second defeat in three matches, and it’s only natural that I come and speak to you.” The Rossoneri have conceded 11 goals in nine league matches, including four against Bologna alone. “It’s an area where we need to improve. Right now, when we lose the ball, we know we are vulnerable because we leave space for our opponents to counterattack,” Maignan said. Bologna were better than us in the penalty area. It’s something we must analyse and improve.” The Diavoli have a tough game ahead as they’ll face city rivals Inter at San Siro this Saturday. “We must avoid throwing fuel on the fire by saying that we’re weak or anything like that,” Maignan said. (Photo by Marco Luzzani/Getty Images) “The right mentality is to stay focused, composed, and calm while acknowledging what we’ve done well. We shouldn’t draw conclusions based on one match or two months of the season. Assessments are made at the end of the season. “It’s the start of a new cycle, so we must remain calm and positive, without creating unrest in the team or the dressing room. That wouldn’t help anyone: the players, the fans, or the wider Milan community.” Milan have five wins, three draws and one loss in nine Serie A games this season, but have also lost two Europa League games from three.
