Swedish wonderkid names Barcelona as his dream club amid Manchester United interest

Swedish wonderkid names Barcelona as his dream club amid Manchester United interest Oliver Mansson has emerged as a promising young name in Swedish football, attracting attention from several European clubs while making no secret of his ambition to play for Barcelona.  As quoted by SPORT , the 17-year-old IFK Gateborg midfielder has a clear preference for the Catalan club, even as scouts from England, Italy and Germany monitor his progress. Mansson’s performances have increased interest in his future, but Barcelona have not sent scouts to watch him, meaning his admiration for the club has yet to translate into a confirmed transfer pursuit. Manchester United and Roma among clubs watching Mansson The teenager’s development has drawn scouts from Manchester United, Roma, Freiburg, Leicester City and Watford, who were present for IFK Goteborg’s 1-1 draw against Djurgarden.  Mansson continued to showcase his potential in a match that attracted attention from beyond Sweden. The midfielder welcomed the interest but stressed that his focus remains on his current performances. But I’m focused on the present,” he said. For now, despite the growing attention, he is concentrating on establishing himself at IFK Goteborg rather than rushing into a decision about his next club. Barcelona remains Mansson’s preferred destination While several clubs are monitoring the youngster, Mansson has been particularly clear about his affection for Barcelona.  Asked about his preference in an earlier interview, he said: “For me, it’s always been Barça.” Barcelona are also his family’s favourite team, adding a personal touch to his ambition. When asked whether he expected the Catalan club to contact him, he replied with a laugh: “Yes, exactly.” However, there is an important distinction between the player’s wishes and Barcelona’s recruitment plans.  View this post on Instagram A post shared by Oliver Månsson (@oliver.mansson_) According to the report, the Catalan club have not been among the sides sending scouts to follow him, despite their broader interest in the Scandinavian market. IFK Goteborg could demand a record transfer fee Mansson’s potential has prompted IFK Goteborg to consider the possibility of a significant sale.  Sporting director Jesper Jansson believes a future transfer could surpass the approximately €9 million Brighton paid for Malick Yalcouye in 2024.  For now, however, no formal offers have been reported so far. The midfielder joined IFK Goteborg’s first team in March 2026 and is under contract until 2028.  For Barcelona, Mansson’s preference could become relevant if the club decides to pursue him in the future, although for now, the situation remains one to watch.
