Fleetwood goalkeeper caught in a lie about Arsenal

Fleetwood goalkeeper caught in a lie about Arsenal Fleetwood Town goalkeeper Jay Lynch has been caught in a lie about Arsenal’s post-match behaviour by his own teammate Adam Murphy. Photo by Carl Recine/Getty Images Following Fleetwood Town’s penalty shootout win over Arsenal in the League Cup, Fleetwood goalkeeper Jay Lynch appeared on a radio show and claimed that the Gunners didn’t speak to them after the game, nor swap shirts. Lynch suggested that was partly because of the fan pitch invasion, but also partly because Arsenal didn’t take the defeat well. “Do you know what? Because obviously it’s such a huge moment for us, and all the fans ran on, no one actually got a chance to speak to them,” Lynch claimed on talkSPORT . “I think the gaffer spoke to their gaffer briefly, but because of all the fans and stuff, we didn’t actually get a chance to ask for shirts or even speak to them or anything. I think they didn’t take it well, let’s put it that way.” Photo by Lewis Storey/Getty Images But this claim has been debunked by Lynch’s own teammate Adam Murphy , who has revealed that Martin Odegaard came out of the dressing room to compliment Fleetwood players, and that multiple players swapped shirts, even including the dismissed Max Dowman . “They were very classy in the tunnel afterwards,” Murphy said . “There was a good few of us waiting outside their changing room just to see if they’d throw us their jersey. “I remember Odegaard came out, and there was a few of us waiting, and he shook all of our hands and said ‘very best of luck, you deserved it’. “I was outside the changing room [waiting for] anyone really, their squad is just unbelievable, you’d take anyone’s [jersey]. But Dowman was there, and I ended up getting his jersey. I don’t think he was obviously too happy after getting sent off!” Photo by Lewis Storey/Getty Images It’s good to hear that the Arsenal players showed respect to the winning team on the night, especially the likes of Dowman, who definitely had good reason to be upset. The club are currently appealing the youngster’s red-card suspension. Then Odegaard’s role as captain obviously involves having to front up for his teammates when things don’t go well, and it sounds as though he did a great job of that on the night. It’s just a shame that Fleetwood’s Lynch felt the need to lie about what happened after the game, presumably in an attempt to spend some more time in the spotlight. Photo by Carl Recine/Getty Images
