Liverpool Make Crucial Alexis Mac Allister Future Decision Following Manchester City Interest Hugo Viana and others at Manchester City have registered an interest in Alexis Mac Allister. More Videos The 27-year-old arrived at Anfield from Brighton and Hove Albion on a five-year contract in June 2023 for a reported initial fee of around £35 million. Doubts over his future at the Reds surfaced this summer after the Merseyside club did not initiate talks of a contract renewal, with the Argentine star’s current deal expiring in about 20 months. While addressing the press ahead of Liverpool ’s Champions League clash against Atletico in September, Mac Allister admitted being 'very sad' over the Reds' decision not to offer him a new contract. “I received the news that the club was not in a position to offer me a new contract, which of course makes me very, very sad," the midfielder said. "Everyone can see I give 100 per cent for this football club, every single day in training, games. “I see Dominik (Szoboszlai) and Ryan (Gravenberch) renewing their contracts and that makes me very happy because they deserve it, but at the same time it makes me a little bit sad that I didn’t get mine." Several reports, including one from Sky Sport Switzerland‘s Sacha Tavolieri , suggested that Liverpool are not planning on offering Mac Allister a new contract, increasing hopes of interested clubs, including Manchester City , to potentially sign him next summer. However, a report from WinWin‘s Ismael Mahmoud has since refuted those claims, mentioning that the Reds are in the process of taking a ‘decisive step’ to extend the Argentinos Juniors graduate’s stay at Anfield in the coming days. The aforementioned report added that “there is a light at the end of the tunnel with regard to the contract of Liverpool and Mac Allister” - and the club will present their offer in a move that has not yet been publicly announced. Liverpool’s decision over the Argentine’s contract is reportedly reached to maintain their current midfield, especially given the player’s impressive displays that have attracted interest from several top clubs in Europe and could result in him parting ways with the Reds in the upcoming season. Mac Allister has already registered four goals and one assist in 12 games across competitions for the Reds this season - and according to Mahmoud, the midfielder is considered ‘indispensable’ to the team by head coach Andoni Iraola. What does this mean for Man City? Mac Allister’s consistent performances and contributions for Liverpool over the years have made him a top transfer prospect for major clubs across leagues. Overall, the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner has netted 23 goals and provided 21 assists in 123 matches across all competitions for Liverpool so far. Alongside Manchester City , who reportedly considered Mac Allister a potential replacement for Rodri, La Liga arch-rivals Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid have also been linked to make a move for him in the future, and Liverpool’s potential plans to extend his contract would throw a wrench in the works for his admirers. The midfielder has earlier expressed his intention to continue at Anfield for a longer time, and if a new contract is penned soon, Enzo Maresca’s side are expected to move on to their other transfer targets next summer. As of now, Manchester City have a solid midfield, with new signings of Elliot Anderson and Enzo Fernandez, and rank top of the Premier League table with 21 points in eight matches ahead of this weekend's meeting with Brighton.
