It's happening, Liverpool making contact over £46m mega transfer
It's happening, Liverpool making contact over £46m mega transfer Liverpool are ready to complete a mega £46m transfer according to a recent report. Andoni Iraola has a serious problem on his hands when it comes to Liverpool's midfield options. The Reds are desperately short of depth in that department, and the current situation is starting to expose just how badly the squad needs reinforcements. With Dominik Szoboszlai sidelined and Ryan Gravenberch having to fill in at right-back, Iraola's options are becoming increasingly limited. James McConnell is effectively the next midfielder in line, which tells you everything you need to know about the current state of the squad. Now, with all due respect to McConnell, there's no doubt he has the potential to enjoy a successful career. But Liverpool need players who can make an immediate impact, and right now, he's not quite at that level. His struggles to secure regular minutes during his time at Ajax only reinforce the point. You can't expect a player who hasn't established himself elsewhere to suddenly become a reliable solution for a club with Liverpool's ambitions. Liverpool's need to buy a midfielder laid bare Thankfully, there are still reasons to be optimistic. Trey Nyoni looks like a fantastic talent, and he's certainly shown enough to suggest he deserves more opportunities in the first team. Giving him a run of games could be a smart move, particularly if Iraola wants to reward young players who are ready to take the next step. Alexis Mac Allister is another player Liverpool can rely on. The Argentine has been operating at an incredibly high level this season, and his quality is exactly what the Reds need during this difficult period. But even world-class players need support around them. Liverpool cannot keep relying on a handful of individuals to carry the midfield, especially when injuries and suspensions inevitably start to pile up. Something has to change. Whether that means returning to the transfer market or promoting more academy players, Iraola needs additional options. Liverpool have plenty of promising youngsters coming through, but potential alone won't solve this problem. The Reds need genuine depth if they're serious about competing at the highest level. Liverpool ready to open talks over £46m transfer There's good news though. Liverpool have solved their headache in the right-back department. Since Trent Alexander-Arnold's departure, it's been a real struggle to find a permanent player to play the position. However, the Reds have finally found him in Ronald Araujo. The Uruguayan has quickly become a fan favourite and he has played stupendously in the role. He is currently on loan from Barcelona but Liverpool do have an option to buy him, and it looks like they are ready to open talks with the Catalan side in order to bring Araujo to Anfield on a permanent basis. Juan Jesus reports that Liverpool are ready to make contact with Barcelona in order to sign Araujo for €55m (£46m) and will start the proceedings in the upcoming January window.
