The gesture was described as a powerful demonstration of unity between the Portuguese manager and his squad. Back then, the players famously tossed him into the air following the 2011 Copa del Rey victory over Barcelona. They did it again the following year after Mourinho masterminded a La Liga triumph over the Catalan giants in 2012. Mourinho strengthening his relationship with the squad Mourinho’s relationship with the players has taken time to develop since the start of the summer, but the squad seems well gelled now . The Portuguese manager is now in his second stint at the club, tasked with bringing silverware back to the Spanish capital. The celebration is more a sign of the players embracing their manager’s methods than anything else. A victory at the Camp Nou against the league leaders is the kind of performance that can galvanise an entire dressing room. However, Mourinho will know better than to rest on his laurels. With five consecutive wins behind them, the Portuguese manager will want to carry the momentum into Sunday’s game. It remains to be seen whether Real Madrid can continue performing as they did against Barcelona and how Mourinho’s second stint at the club progresses.
