Tottenham Hotspur defender responds to Barcelona transfer links: ‘Would love to return to Spain’

Tottenham Hotspur defender responds to Barcelona transfer links: ‘Would love to return to Spain’ Barcelona’s defensive problems have been compounded by recent injuries at the back. Currently, Hansi Flick is without Eric Garcia, Jules Kounde, Andreas Christensen and Xavi Espart, with all four out injured. This leaves the German manager with just four first-team defensive options: Joao Cancelo, Pau Cubarsi, Gerard Martin and Alejandro Balde. This has prompted discussion about potential reinforcements for Barcelona, with Pedro Porro one of the names on the radar. Despite Joan Laporta’s reported admiration for the Spaniard, the Catalans are unlikely to make a move for him in January. Speaking to Cadena SER’s El Larguero , Porro addressed his future and admitted that he would welcome a return to Spanish football. Nevertheless, the prospect of returning home continues to appeal to him. Pedro Porro is reportedly on Barcelona’s radar. However, the Spanish international also played down reports suggesting that Barcelona or Madrid had made serious attempts to sign him. “Nobody has told me Barcelona or Madrid want me,” he revealed, explaining that enquiries about his situation never developed into concrete interest. When asked which of the two Spanish giants would better suit his playing style, Porro avoided choosing a side. “I consider myself a player who can adapt to anything,” he responded. Barcelona unlikely to pursue expensive deal Despite his openness to returning to La Liga , a move to Barcelona currently appears unlikely. Transfer expert Matteo Moretto recently revealed that the Catalans are not actively pursuing Porro. His substantial salary and Tottenham’s financial demands are seen as major obstacles. Tottenham are said to want more than €60 million. Porro’s attacking qualities would certainly appeal to Hansi Flick, particularly his crossing and ability to support the right winger. However, with Jules Kounde, Eric Garcia, Xavi Espart and Joao Cancelo already at the club, investing heavily in another right-back may not represent the smartest use of limited resources. Instead, what Barça need immediately is a new centre-back to add some bite to that position, and that is where the focus needs to be. It remains to be seen how Pedro Porro’s time at Spurs pans out and whether Barcelona consider a move for him in the future.
