Real Madrid rejected offers for fringe star who believes he is not inferior to Mourinho’s untouchable starter The story of Andriy Lunin and Real Madrid is a special one, for it is surprising how the two parties continue to work with one another year after year. After all, the Ukrainian star has always stepped up and performed at an exceedingly high level whenever called upon by the management over the years. His consistent quality when given the chance, needless to say, opened the door to a potential departure on multiple occasions. The player and club, however, both were not in favour of the same despite him only being a substitute at Real Madrid. Real Madrid trust Lunin An ever-reliable backup. Former goalkeeping coach Luis Llopis and the new man in the post – Nuno Santos – both share strong faith in Lunin. The fringe star had offers to leave the club in the summers of 2024 and 2025, but none convinced him at the time more than the prospect of staying at Real Madrid. There have been talks of leaving the club for a starting role, but the player values his stability in Madrid and the status he has earned in the dressing room. Jorge Mendes, for his part, played a key role in ensuring the player stayed when stray thoughts entered his mind. Even when he transferred a request to leave to Real Madrid, the club outright declined the possibility. In fact, he signed a renewal until 2030 and the club fully believe in him. Lunin does not feel inferior Lunin has great self confidence. Had any other big goalkeeper been in Courtois’ place, Lunin may well have even displaced them. The Belgian, however, is in a league of his own and the Ukrainian star knows he is the best possible alternative. Lunin has great self-confidence and trust in his abilities, and his performances in Courtois’ absence have been nothing inferior to what the Belgian star would have delivered. Last weekend, he was a key member in Real Madrid’s win over Barcelona and pulled off a staggering six saves for Los Blancos . One week later, he is expected to return to the bench, although he is not the type to make any fuss of the situation.
