Manchester United make enquiry for Barcelona’s €110m-rated midfielder

Manchester United make enquiry for Barcelona’s €110m-rated midfielder Manchester United have made enquiries about Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez as they assess potential reinforcements for their midfield, according to journalist Matteo Moretto on Radio MARCA . The Premier League giants have also explored the possibility of signing Atletico Madrid’s Pablo Barrios, although neither situation has progressed to formal negotiations. Moretto reported that Manchester United are looking for a midfielder with qualities similar to those of Fermin and Barrios. The Red Devils have made initial checks on both players, but the interest remains at an exploratory stage rather than representing an active transfer pursuit. The Premier League giants are going through a difficult situation and could be looking to bolster their squad, especially with concerns surrounding captain Bruno Fernandes. However, any attempt to sign the Spanish international would be complicated by his importance to the La Liga champions. The 23-year-old has become a significant part of the Catalan club’s plans, and the report suggests that Barcelona would be reluctant to sanction his departure. Fermin had previously attracted interest from Chelsea in 2025 , but Barcelona shut down the possibility of a departure and renewed his contract until 2031 in January earlier this year. Moreover, Fermin has time and again made it abundantly clear that he only wishes to stay at Barcelona and would love to spend his entire career there. “I’ve always wanted to be here; it’s always been my dream, and now that I’m here, I’m trying to enjoy it to the full and make it last as long as God wills,”  he said in an interview earlier this year. “The truth is I’m very happy, and I hope I can stay here forever.” As such, the enquiry from Manchester United is unlikely to lead to anything substantial, with the La Liga champions expected to retain the 23-year-old midfielder’s services. *Player valuation in title obtained from transfermarkt.com on date of publication.
