Liverpool have dropped out of the race to sign forward for £50m

Liverpool have dropped out of the race to sign forward for £50m Liverpool Step Back from David Otorbi Move After Valencia Contract Twist Liverpool’s search for a right-sided attacker appears to have hit an early barrier, with Valencia moving swiftly to protect David Otorbi amid growing Premier League interest. According to Tribuna Deportivo , Valencia have activated an extension in Otorbi’s contract, taking his deal through to 2031 and significantly increasing his release clause. That development has changed the picture around a player Liverpool had been monitoring closely as they assessed options on the right wing. The 19-year-old has emerged as one of the more intriguing young forwards in Spain. A right-footed winger who usually starts from the right, Otorbi has built his reputation on speed, direct running and a willingness to attack defenders aggressively. He has made tangible progress with Valencia this season and looked to be entering a key stretch in his development before a thigh injury briefly interrupted his momentum. David Otorbi Price Shift Alters Liverpool Plan The previous structure of the deal made it understandable why Liverpool were attentive. Otorbi’s release clause had been set at €30m, roughly £25m, a figure that represented a calculated market opportunity for a player with age, upside and top-flight exposure. That sort of fee can be justified when a recruitment team believes it is moving early on a talent before the wider market hardens. Photo: IMAGO Now, the equation looks very different. Valencia’s move has reportedly doubled the clause to €60m, around £50m, while also rewarding the player with improved terms. At that valuation, Liverpool’s interest has cooled, with the club seemingly unwilling to proceed on those numbers. Liverpool Right Wing Search Continues This remains a notable area of the squad. Liverpool invested heavily in attacking talent during the last window, bringing in Victor Munoz and Bradley Barcola, but the profile of a natural right-sided option still appears to be under consideration. Otorbi looked like one of several market opportunities rather than a signing the club felt compelled to force through at any cost. That is generally how these situations unfold at elite clubs. Strong interest can be genuine, groundwork can be advanced, and yet one contractual move by the selling club changes the economics enough for the buying side to withdraw. It does not necessarily reflect a negative view of the player, more a judgement on value, timing and squad priorities. Valencia Strengthen Position Over Spanish Forward For Valencia, this is an important piece of business. They have secured one of their most promising young attackers and placed themselves in a far stronger negotiating position for the future. For Liverpool, it appears to be a case of keeping the file open while stepping away from a price point they do not currently consider favourable. Otorbi remains a name to watch, but for now, any immediate move to Anfield looks to have been pushed firmly to the background. Our View This feels like a sensible line to take. Otorbi sounds talented, and there is clearly a lot to like about his pace, his confidence and the fact he is already making an impression in La Liga. But £50m for a 19-year-old who is still developing, and currently dealing with an injury setback, would be a massive gamble. Liverpool do need more on that side of the attack, that much is obvious. Even so, there is no point paying a premium just because a club has reacted quickly to transfer interest. That is exactly how mistakes get made in the market. If the recruitment team liked him at £25m, that makes complete sense. At £50m, it becomes a very different conversation. There is also no need to panic. Good clubs keep moving, keep scanning and keep waiting for the right deal. If Otorbi keeps progressing, the interest may well return later, but right now this looks like one to park. Valencia have done well for themselves, Liverpool can move on, and there will be other right wing options out there who fit both the squad and the budget more cleanly.
